Bird Flu - Where it all go ?

Few things are more frightening than an outbreak that could spread sickness and panic all over the world. That's why the bird flu dominated headlines last year. But when's the last time you heard anything about it?

Was/Is it a serious threat or was it just another case of media hysteria?

Just seems strange to have been dropped from the news almost instantly, especially after last years hysteria.

It was never 'human flu' it was always a bird problem, mutating was mostly the news doing what they do best - scaring people like yourself.

Never was overly concerned with the news reports. I remember it got a few backs up on here when it ws suggested it was blown out of all proportion

Was a report on it in the Independent a few days ago, asking exactly the same thing. I don't think I have the paper any more, but the general gist of it was that it's still about in various bits of the world and may come back a little more over the winter period.

*shrug*back to the bunkers for all, then...

It all calmed down once a few companies made their millions selling masks and other end of the world type items.

Media hype, government scaremongering and a paranoid populus. I never worried about bird flu because I am not a bird.

It could have jumped the species barrier though, as it has done before - that was the danger

My lecturer predicted this was gonna happen - He's a microbiologist. Bird flu as been around for a while and the only thing stopping it is the mutation to a strain that can "jump" on to humans. This wont happen for a while.
IMO the media has milked it and sold enough papers out of it's worth. I pity the fool that's gone ahead and buy all those mask and Tamiflu tablets

Was everywhere, now nowhere :confused:

Did they manage to isolate the cases then?

It is still here - always been. Media are on to better paper-selling-stories now - Muslim, Tory gay sex, terrorism, Iraq, afganistan etc.

The case hasnt been isolated but journals suggest there are on going reseach behind the screen for cure and vaccine but more emphasis is on vaccine.

It has also been suggested that military men are on standby to bury millions of people in mass grave if it happens** :eek:
