Got a flaming bird in the loft. Will get the roofers in to check whereabouts it managed to get in but, in the meantime, what's the best way of getting rid.

No idea what it is but it's small like a starling rather than a pigeon. Figured some kind of humane trap but struggling to find something suitable.

we had a bird in our sealed chimney Brest a few months ago, at the bottom in the front room.

Had to cut a hole in the plasterboard and a blooming magpie hop'd out and proceeded to fly onto the picture frames in the front room, then walk behind my sofa, managed to usher him out the door.

Still got the whole in the chimney Brest

We had a pigeon in our fireplace in our old house. I was all up for leaving it there, but Mrs Cheesyboy insisted I got it out.

the fireplace had a small hatch, so I was able to reach in and grab the damned thing before releasing in the garden.

I later found the bones of one of its ancestors when clearing out the crap from behind another fireplace in the house. Stupid creatures, pigeons.

Haha no cat I'm afraid.

I'm away for the weekend from tomorrow so will have to try leaving the hatch open after that. Presume leave the light off in the loft so they're attracted to the light below?

What concerns me is I think it's been up there for a while (have been hearing odd noises for a few weeks but never seen anything when I've been up there to check before) so I'm concerned it's not randomly in there but has actually decided to nest in there and is going out and coming back. In that case it's unlikely to want to leave of its own volition and, even if it did or I managed to remove it, it's just going to come back in via the original route. Guess I need to get the roof checked/fixed first.

Best way....be a man and go up in to the loft and catch/release said bird and temporarily block any holes you see daylight through.

Well, as per previous post, I've been up there before and not seen it. Today was the first time it was flying around. I could sit up there for a while I guess and hope it flies past but I'd need to be pretty damn sharp to catch it with my hands!

As for blocking holes - no chance. Not only is the loft full of crap but the pitch is very shallow so you can't get right out to the edges/eaves where the hole will most likely be. Going to need doing from the outside.

Unless it's a pigeon it won't be nesting at this time of year and even then it's pretty unlikely.

Ok well I know the roof needs checking anyway and I have someone lined up to do that so will give them a prod. I'll try leaving the hatch/window open next week when I'm back and see how I get on. Cheers all.
