Well after an appalling day with the 1D MkIII I still managed to reap some decent shots, I managed some flight stuff earlier but nothing I haven't already got.
Today we concentrated on Snowbuntings hopping around in pools, the light was georgeous.

I love the second one! Really nice. Fill my dreams with fantasy thoughts please - what ludicrously expensive glass did you take these with?

nice pictures. read your problem i live in norfolk it was about 12 degrees here yesterday afternoon so your was exibiting the problems discussed elsewhere at lower temps but lke you say damm it hurts if you pick a mark2 or n model and you get the keepers you should.

hope they fix it soon and you dont come across it as much or do you think the larger vehicle size you normally shoot ie drag racing makes it the difference as you have a varied backdrop so it seems to foucus better on the moving object.

Ooo... razor sharp subject, creamy* bokeh. Nice work, great shots.

*I think that's the official term. I may just have overdosed on camera reviews recently.

Thanks for the replies guys, i'll be going back there again soon, the birdlife is just 10x more than what i'm used to from anywhere around where I live <Lincoln> my friend was struggling with his 500mmF4 at times because of minimum focussing distance, I had one of those snowbuntings on my shoe at one point lol :)

300mm F2.8 again with 1.4x and 2.0x converters, I took a lot of shots with my friends 500mm F4 because i'm thinking of buying one before the end of the year, but these are all with the 300, which proved to be brilliant because of the close focussing distance - a problem i've never had with wildlife before lol.

I saw 600 in the exif and assumed it was a 600mm prime. If those are 300mm with 2x converter then they are very good indeed. :)

Awesome photos.
The second and last images are stunning. Great quality from the 300 + 2x as well.

Definitely raised the wildlife image benchmark.
