Hey folks, I wanted to post this in the GPU section, but I'm not sure if it's against the rules to ask about pricing somewhere that isn't Overclockers themselves, so thought I'd ask here.
I'm looking to go to the Birmingham Computer Fair tomorrow morning, apparently they have a lot of different things. I'm in need of a new GPU, and was likely going to pick up a GTX 1080, upgrading from a GTX 970. Anyone know what kind of pricing they might have there? I've never been to a PC fair before, do you heckle on prices? I'll need a new PSU too if I was to upgrade my GPU, haven't figured out which one I'll be looking for yet though.

Has anyone been to this fair? Or any that are similar? Are the things they have brand new? Do they have both brand new and second hand? Good/bad prices? Any info would be great :)

Oddly the only place which has ever been competitive for me at fairs is OcUK (Eurogamer a few years ago), bought an R9 290 from them and they gave me a bit of discount and loads of free tat (still have the EVGA mouse mat). I found that most of the other suppliers tend to gouge a bit.

Every computer fair I've ever been too has been overpriced on major components. The only bits I buy are if I need a cable or something on a weekend and can't wait for delivery - although even that's becoming a rarity with Amazon Prime.

I haven't been to a computer fair in over a decade but even then it was mostly older kit, pirate crap and worse prices than online while paying an entry fee for the pleasure.

Same here.

I used to go to one in Wolverhampton many years ago & the only thing I found competitivlycpriced was dvd discs, paper & ink.
Hardware was a good 25% overprice & 18 month behind the times.

I've not been to one in this millenium. I can't comprehend the prices (and support) being a patch on OcUK. Other e-tailers are also available.

Would you buy a brand new car from Arthur Daley? ;)

So not even worth going then? I was hoping they'd have some sales on or some good prices for a new GPU or PSU :(

Nope, i stopped going when internet shopping became popular. Also if you need to return something back, you pay entry fee again to return it.

I can't see why they would, that sort of stuff ought to be low margin and more efficiently sold by online retailers

OCUK has a massive warehouse and a load of staff turning over a massive quantity of orders relative to some bloke manning a stall - I can't see how they can feasibly be competitive on price

I went to one in Wolverhampton - down by race course - many moons ago - always came away with nothing. - Telford town center was another one. Just use OCuk now ;)

Computer Fairs ime are now populated by the computer nerds whom are too nerdy to even use ocuk. It's like a safehaven for them.

You know, the ones on Linux.

I went to this one last time it was on,No bargains at all tbh i could get things cheaper online including postage,One guy was selling a used GTX 970 for £200 i said to him can get one of those for £110-140 and he was having none of it no you cant :D was like okay mate good luck lol.

Back in the day Wolverhampton fair was massive, took up the whole venue, now it barely takes half.

Same with the Edgbaston Cricket Grounds but they stopped doing them there years ago.

I went to a computer fair in Coventry yesterday and wished I hadn't bothered. Just a few traders who were selling mainly complete PCs, home security systems, TVs , PC cables and printer stuff. I went hoping to pick up a PC case fan and get some general advice on case fans. With the exception of one trader who was selling the cables, none were helpful or even knowledgeable about PCs and PC components apart from the make they specialised in. Certainly not worth the £5 admission charge and I will not be going to another one. Thoroughly disappointing.
