Bit confused about ADSL2+ and cable?

Ive done a check and it says my exchange(ADSL2+) will be live from oct09 till march10, the thing im a little confused about is would i say be able to get cable in my area when it becomes active? if not is that then no virgin 50meg for me? im just a little thick on the matter

ASDL2+ is just over phone lines, nothing to do with fibre optics for virgin
