Hi I currently have 1Gb of ram installed on my PC and as I plan to upgrade to vista 64 I want to add some more ram to my PC + to make it a bit more future proof with the latest games.

I currently have 2 x 512mb sticks installed on my PC here is the specs

PC2-6400 (400 MHz)
OCZ
OCZ2P800512

Can I just buy any type of ram and install it and it will work or is it important to make sure that the ram is of the same specs ??

I am a little confused what ram I would need to buy and if it might be better if I just sell my current ram and just have 2 x 1GB sticks with better specs.

Could i add this ram to my PC running with my 2 x 512mb sticks at the minute to make a total of 3GB ram on my PC ?

thanks for any help !!

you mention for it to have the same timings - well I notice that link I gave for that ram says CAS 4-4-4-12

which part on CPU-Z should I be looking at under SPD, were its says CAS# Latency ?

here are some more specs of my ram

FREQUNECY = 410.0 MHz

FSB DRAM 1.1

CAS LATENCY 5.0 CLOCKS

RAS TO CAS DELAY 6 CLOCKS

RAS PRECHARGE 6 CLOCKS

CYCLE TIME 18 CLOCKS

BANK CYCLE TIME 24 CLOCKS

MODULE SIZE 512mb

MAX BANDWIDTH PC2-6400 (400 MHz)

Manufactor = OCZ

Well your current set can run at 4-5-4-15 @800mhz.

From my experience I found that the OCZ Platinum and the Geil ran fine together, tho I had the slightly new version of the OCZ that was 4-4-4-12 @800mhz.

I'd say you'd be fine adding the Geil to your current set.
