Bah, got the dreaded call today from the guy at work who managed the fleet of company cars.

Had a nice letter of prosecution for me, caught doing 88 in a 70 on the M40 between Junctions 3 and 2 I believe.

Funny thing was is I remembered straight away when it happened, I recall seeing a mobile van on a bridge above the motorway - I saw it quite a far distance off but it still got me it seems.

If anyone remembers the last week of May was insanely hot (believe they had the hottest/2nd hottest day of the year so far in the week I was caught), so the weather conditions were fine and the motorway was clear as it was 11am.

Oh well, will admit fault as it was definitely me, just annoying they decide to use the mobile vans in completely nice weather on a motorway...

One quick question, I currently have 6 points on my license - 3 of which I believe have expired as they were picked up 5th December 2006, but I've not had them removed.

Will this cause any issues? Do you think they will remove the expired points whilst putting my new ones on? :D

I love the fact you pay a fine and then have to pay to have the points taken off again. :o

I believe it was the 25th May when I was caught - I don't have the fine yet, just the notice of prosecution that's with the manager of our car pool. He called me about it this morning.

yes, MikeHiow is correct.

I really think the speed limit on the motorway could be increased, such a shame everyone is so hung up on health and safety.

Cars these days can stop far quicker, and are far more refined than cars when the 70mph speed limit was introduced, it is therefore safer to drive at 70mph and IMO it should be increased.

Yes but in 1960 humans were stupid and now it's 2010, we're still stupid.

In that case whack the limit up to 100 and let natural selection do it's thing.

We all are. We still can't process things and react quicker than we could in 1960. Maybe a bit more used to the speed. Something people forget when they mention the cars being better, you still have to factor in the idiot behind the wheel.

Your'e a genius :p

But, take brakes for example, the distance it takes to stop from 70mph in a 1970s car, I reckon is similar to the stopping distance of a modern car + the extra reaction time.

Points are valid for totting up purpose for 3 years, but can not be removed from your license till four years after the date of the offence.

Because your points were in Dec 2006, you do still technically have 6 points, (or rather have 9 now) but you only have 6 for totting up purposes, so have to incur a further 4 + points to be banned.

Don't forget, older cars are still on the roads. Combine idiots in older cars that don't have ABS or great stopping ability and you'll end up with more accidents. If ALL cars were modern ones I'd be inclined to agree with you, but I'm with Janesy B on this.

Related but not wroth a new thread...

I went past a police car earlier on the side of the A34 a little bit fast, about 80 on the speedo, one of the Volvo estates, didnt have any special markings apart from normal police colours. And there was no one standing outside of it and I couldn't see anyone in the back

Chances are of it being a camera?

Don't forget to take into account modern day distractions like mobile phones :)
Seem plenty of monkeys in the outside lane oblivious to the goings on in the real world outside whilst they take that mega-urgent phone call.

They wont remove your points even if they are more than 4years old, mine they litterally just rulered a line through them and posted it back.

Best way to do it is to do an address change which is free and since they print a fresh license they dont bother to put on your expired points

just thinking about this speed limit on the motorway debate and it got me thinking about the autobhans. Do they have more accidents on the stretches with no speed limit?

I thought change of address cost? Sure that's what my house mate told me :)
