Hey all,
I'm planning a new build based around a Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX, I'm going to go for the AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1100T.

I basically need a bit of advice as to best RAM to pick for the Mobo/CPU and graphics card.

I'm upgrading and have a Artic Cooler Rev - is this fine if i overclock the cpu?

Anyone confirm ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB is a good choice?

Im just looking to confirm this or suggest alternatives before buying.

I game a lot. Also am a networking student so run multilple virtual client/server set-ups at once. As well as testing programs written also on a virtual. Sometimes i can be running 2 virtual servers + 4 clients and my current system struggles.

Hope you can advise mainly on RAM selection and if the cooler will allow sufficient clearance with 4 full Ram slots.

Thanks

Bit out my price range need to graduate 1st.

Its cheaper.

AMD
CPU = £150
MOBO = £180
Total = £330

Intel
CPU = £170
MOBO = £70-140
Total = £240-310

and your saying you cant afford Sandybridge?
your sending way too much on the Crosshair, money could be saved and better spent on the CPU.

Yea looks good need 8 Gb RAM though. What about graphics card as i have the 6950 in my build at the minute but could sell it in a flash??

Thanks your convincing me.

Keep the 6950 or add another for Crossfire.

Still cheaper with 8GB of RAM.

Thanks job done its in basket, my laptops i3 vaio 8Gb and happy with that.

What kind of stable overclock can be reached with this CPU/Mobo i see figures above 4.5Ghz and above. I tend to take this with a pinch of salt.

Can you offer realistic figures?
