Bit of advice please (updated)

I have received my new macbook and i have just noticed some dust in the screen, im thinking about exchanging it, would i be able to do this at a apple reseller? there is one local to me called mcc or something.

If not its a 80 mile round trip to my nearest apple store!

Am i being picky? heres a pic

To be honest, the premium price we pay for our Apple products, I wouldn't expect anything less than perfection. Take it back and kick up a fuss. It will have to be the Apple store though im afraid, the reseller won't take it.

What do you think other than the dust?

I think it's lovely matey, the trackpad is fantastic! It's my first mac and early impressions are it was a good move.

Il sort a genius appoinment for tomorrow I think :)

I will see how it goes tomorrow, i cant see there being an issue getting a replacement to be honest, also i have 14 days if i'm not happy which they will be well aware of.

I will check the new one instore for any problems :)

Agreed. Take it back to an Apple store and get it sorted.

I've also just found a scratch about 3mm long on the outer alu bezel of the screen but that is just being picky and wouldn't of bothered me at all :)

Apart from this, the thing is brilliant, i'm sitting here now typing as the sun shines through my window, as a cloud passes and covers the sun my screen adjusts is brightness, i'm loving that feature :)

And osx of course :P

Thanks guys :)

I had 1 dead pixel on my MBP and they exchanged the screen for me no questions. Call up apple to get a code and an appointment booked too if you want to confirm with them before you take it down.

I went through 3 panels before getting a perfect one which was a bit of a pain, but it did not cost me a penny :)

I have an oppoinment for tomorrow at my nearest apple store, i just hope the next one doesnt have other/more problems, this one has dust in the screen (not behind the glass actually in the screen) a wierd deadish pixels which is really hard to spot, a scratch on the case and slanted f keys which isnt a problem thats just seriously anal.

Iraiguana, did they replace the panel or new MBP? i know i will get another macbook but just curious :)

Somebody I used to work with went through three iMacs before he got one with a perfect screen. Luckily for him that also meant he went from a G5 to an Intel iMac!

Well i took it to the apple store and the genius said he couldnt exchange it as i ordered it using the apple website (its a stock 2.0ghz macbook BTW not BTO) he said that i would need to phone apple and arrange an exchange, he saw the dust and said it needed replacing.

I'm really suprised i couldnt exchange it instore :(

That was a 100 mile round trip for me but i guess i should have phoned them first.

He said to tell them i'm very dissapointed and they may give me a discount or something.

Did he give you a reason for not being able to exchange it?

Usually they will do it on the spot, unless they don't have that MacBook in stock.

He said that online orders cant be exchanged instore, if it was older than 14 days he would have sorted a repair though.

Do you think he should have exchanged it?

I do, yeah.

I think, as you said, because it's still in the 14 day return period you have to return it to where you bought it which in your case was the online store.

I'm going to phone them tomorrow, hopefully sort an exchange for when i'm off work which is a week tomorrow, if i miss the courier the nearest dpot is 40 miles away, i cant send it work as i used a HE link to buy it and dont want them to question anything.

The only thing that worries me is that i have to get a rebate for an ipod in by the end of November which i ordered alongside this macbook but i'm sure it will be sorted well before then, unless i get another "bad" one......

I would have stood in the shop or got them to call the apple store online for you. That was very poor service given to you as they are normally great.

They simply need to get a repair/replace code for the item and should not be a problem. Sorry I did not emphasise the calling of apple enough. I would tell them you had that long journey and you may get a discount and get them to pick up and take it away as you have already had one wasted journey!

Good luck next time!
