Hi,

Im going to be buying the following:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 (x2)
2 x ati 3870

What I have no idea about is the following:

1. Cooling for the CPU
2. A power supply
3. A motherboard

Can anyone offer me some advice on what to buy?

Much appreciated :)

or there is a cheaper IP35 if this is a bit expensive

Thanks mate :)

Money isnt really a problem, not going to be upgrading for a while after this so looking for whatever is best but not ridiculously expensive for the sake of it.

Do motherboards support xfire/sli now? not upgraded for ages so bit unsure. Is that pretty much the best board to get then, noticed it being recommended a fair bit.

That cooler, do I need to buy a fan for it?

Not all support xfire and SLI. The IP35 doesnt, but unless you play games at super high resolutions it doesnt really offer much benefit. If you're desperate for SLI it'd be an nforce board you'd want, but the Intel P35 chipset is faster than the price comparable nforce 650 and the faster nforce 680 is ruinously expensive.

That cooler is generally accepted to be the best at the moment and has a decent relatively quiet fan in it.

yeh I want to go with ATI xfire. 2 of the 3750s. got a 24" monitor so game at 1920x1200.

what board should I look at for that?

Hmmmm, I may just be being thick, but I cant find a crossfire board that ocuk sell for skt 775. All the ones I can find are for skt AM2. An 8800gt will just about manage Crysis at that resolution with a playable frame rate, but its not very future proof. How about 2 nvidia cards on an nforce 680, although it'll get very expensive

hmm, they appear to be a fair bit more expensive the 8800gt for not much more performance from what ive seen.

anyone else know if you can run xfire with an intel cpu?
