Right, bought a Intel E6600 from the MM the other month to replace a intel Celeron E1500.

Fitted it to the board and it just kept blue screening after trying to load Windows. This board did support both Celeron and Core 2 duo.

Anyway, thought bugger it ill upgrade to a board that is DDR3 compatable and more up to date. so bought OcUK's last LGA775 board that was in stock, a ASRock G41M-VS3 R2.0.

Now got it all on some cardboard and started it up and it is doing the exact same thing on the new board... So is this CPU dead or am i doing something terrably wrong?

Everything is connected fine, CPU power plug, fan etc etc...

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

0x0000009c

Which comes down to a CPU fault, going by google.

Specs are:

Asrock board as mentioned
E6600
2GB ddr3 memory (1stick)
8800gtx (not fitted at the moment)
450watt psu (dont know the brand, may have been ocuk brand from about 5 years ago)

It all works fine when i use the e1500.

Thanks

which windows are you running ?
altho it shouldnt matter are you able to try and install windows on another partition/ spare hdd?

can you confirm the bios settings are stock and speeds of memory and cpu standard and correct voltages for your ram, cpu? If it does prove faulty look out for a e5300/e5400 they are very cheap on a certain auction site and can overlock to 3.3/3.6 on a basic mboard like your own.

was there a bios update for your motherboard at some point which added e6600 compatibility ?

EDIT: the motherboard should be good if you have atleast bios version P1.30

Alright guys,

Thanks for the replies. I managed to sort it out and everything is working fine now. Had to disable 'P4 thermal' in the BIOS which then let me do a fresh install with Windows 7 32bit.

Any free programs that stress test the CPU and ram for free?

The computer is my lads and the old CPU/memory was struggling to run his Minecraft whilst a bit of music was running in the background and terrible at playing HD YouTube videos. Hopefully the upgrades should sort this. Will stick in another 2GB of ram when I have time to grab some more.

Prime (an exact version I'm not so sure on. I downloaded it once and never got it again...)
intel burn test
memtest (boot form usb or cd)
OCCT

Hello ,thanks for the suggestions. Last night I put Intel burn on for 10 rounds at Max memory and everything went ok. CPU went no higher than 50°.

Then my lad went on his Minecraft and after 2min the PC blue screened, happened about 5 times in a row till I underclocked the CPU to 1600mhz. Everything working fine now, but what use is it having 1600mhz when the stock is 2400mhz. The CPU is being given 1.3v of power, problem is though, I cannot find a option in the BIOS to change the CPU's power.

Any ideas guys?

Have you tried a GPU stress test just to rule out it may not be the GPU causing the blue screens now? Seems a bit odd for it to be prime stable but not minecraft stable.

The error code suggested the CPU i think. Did not note it down but i am sure it was 0x00000124.

I should have explained better. Originally i noticed the CPU was running at 1600mhz when i did the first lot of Intel burn through CoreTemp, then went back into the BIOS and put it from 6 to 9 which put it back to stock (2400mhz). Ran the Intel burn again to be on the safe side and everything went well, well till the little one went on his game.

Though saying that, i did install 108 Windows updates and the Intel chipset drivers that came on a disk with the Mobo around the same time.

Also to note: it works perfectly fine at 1600mhz, no BSODS at all. So i am having a wild guess at that this CPU is a bit more power hungry than normal.
