Hi all,
We have a Dell R710 server which we are using for one of our ESXi 5 hosts for various VM's, this server was packed with 32GB RAM to give us plenty of room to play with.
However, on Friday I went to perform a few changes on the host, and give it a reboot, the changes I made were to do with the host name, any domain settings for the host, and change a DNS server address (this was all done from the console on the server itself).
After these changes were made, I rebooted the host, however, apon doing so, after the reboot, the server came up, however something strange had occurred, whilst it was booted, I noticed that it was only showing 16GB of RAM, thinking this was very strange, I waited it to come up fully, so I can look and also check in vSphere, and again, its only showing 16GB of ram, so 16GB has weirdly gone missing?
I decided to give the host another reboot, just incase something strange had happened with the first boot. However again as it came up, it was only showing 16GB.
Can anyone possibly give me some advice on something that could have caused this? I cant see how 16GB would suddenly go missing, or become faulty?
This is a live production server so we are limited on any physical tests we can do with it until after 11PM. however I can do some checks obviously through vSphere, as long as it doesnt disrupt the server during working hours.
The capacity of memory used at the moment is hanging around 14.5GB out of the 16GB so you can imagine I want to get this sorted.
