Hi All.

Since W8.1 no longer has an inbuilt image creator I need a little Guidance on how to shift and and add new drives to my PC...

Currently have the following

256gb SSD - Windows OS (C:)
128gb SSD - Storage drive just for Origin Games
1TB HDD - Storage and stores some games from Steam.

I understand how to shift around my Steam game installs thats not a problem... what is is my OS...

Basically I am picking up a second 256gb SSD and ultimatley want the follwoing config

128gb SSD - OS
256gb SSD - Steam Games A
256gb SSD - Steam Games B

The new SSD i am getting is the Samsung Evo which looks like it comes with clone software...

Would it just be a case of cloneing my current 256 OS drive, swaping the cavels around to the 128gb SSD and imaging the clone onto the 128? then just format the 256 SSD?

How will it work with the drives being different sizes? when i go to clone the 256SSD it should have no more than about 50gb of data on it as I will be backing up my game files and then deleting them to make the image smaller.

Pretty sure Windows 8.1 still allows system image creation?

Step 1.

Create image - control pannel - backup - create system image (bash this on your mech HDD)

Step 2. install new HDD

Step 3. boot from your windows installation disk or a recovery disk and go to repaire

Step 4. select your new OS drive and give it a few mins

Step 5. set your new drive as the primary boot device in UEFI/BIOS

Step 6. wipe your old OS drive and get rid of the image if you want to.

No need to go back into the case and change the physical address of the drives you just set the priority from the logical address.

Never used the samsung software but its supposed to be easy to use, its intended for the non tech savy afterall.

The sizes should only be an issue if the disk is too smal for all the files
