Bit of Teamviewer advice....

I'm in the process of setting up a new laptop for an elderly family member and was wondering whether it was possible to install Teamviewer (or an alternative) and setting it up so I can just jump on and help him out without having to connect using the ID and password.

Is this possible?
 
Yes, but don't ask me how to do it off the top of my head. :-) You add it as one of the machines under your account, tick the easy access box and, er... that might be it. The only pain in the backside thing about Teamviewer is when you log off it pops up a lovely 'Thanks for using our lovely product' box which requires a click to get rid off and can confuse folk.

There are a few workarounds for that reported on Google, but I didn't have any success. I couldn't get Google's remote assistance to work either so I learned to put up with Teamviewer. Shame they don't have an affordable version for normal folk. It's free and annoying or HOW MUCH!?
 
There's two methods you can use.

The easiest is a simple install, which means when they need help they launch the program and tell you the ID and password to allow you to connect. I believe this changes each time teamviewer is restarted, so they'd have to give you the combination everytime you need to connect.

The other method is to set up unattended access, which means assigning the PC to your teamviewer account. This means you'll be able to access their PC without any intervention from them.
