Hi all.

Lemme start out saying my PSU died last week (Hiper 580W) and I got a replacement and everything seemed to be running fine and didn't look like any damage was caused when I installed the new one. Computer has run fine for the past week, often being under heavy strain.

Now, today, I loaded up BF2142 for a quick game, logged in fine, selected a soldier and then the game froze when the "Contacting EA Severs" message appeared. Thought nothing of it, thought it might have been EA servers down. Restarted the game and it did the same thing again.

So I loaded up CSS, played a few round fine, no problems. Then after about the third round the game froze with the sound looping.

Restarted my computer and decided to try BF2142 again and when the EA logo with the walker showed it it started to lag quite bad so I closed it. Restarted again and the windows logo showed up with the loading bar, and when the log in screen should be displayed there was a black screen with an hour glass cursor on it. The screen then went completely black like there was no input into the monitor but the light on the monitor remained green. The screen had a flicker every so often.

Then the blue memory screen appeared saying it dumped all the memory and that I should restart the computer. It said NV4_Disp or something was to blame as it go caught in a loop. Seeing this I rebooted and it did the same again.

Rebooted yet again and went into safe mode and removed the drivers, rebooted and the login screen appeared this time. Reinstalled the drivers and rebooted, login screen appeared. Everything fine. Changed all the monitor resolutions back again etc. So I went to play a game again so I went to turn on SLi. Thats when the screens went black again and then then windows task bar slowly began to reappear icon by icon. Then the screen went black again and a load of red lines ran up the screen. It did this a few time until the memory dump screen appaeared again.

So I'm guessing theres something wrong with one of my cards to be causing this. Just wondered if any of you have any idea on what it could be or what could cause this.

I mentioned the PSU blowing because it may have damaged a card?

My specs:
AMD 3700+ @2.5GHz
Asus A8n
2x BFG 7800GT OC SLi configured
2GB PC3200 ram.

Thanks for any help. I'm going to take the cards out tomorrow and try them both by themselves.

If anyone has a solution to this please let me know ;) If not looks like I'm RMA'ing back to BFG.

Sorry for such a long post too! Have a cookie for reading it :)

If it was your cards then surley they wouldnt display the bsod perfectly?

Id try the ram too.

Im quite interested here as i have that psu!

//whats youyr new psu? it maight not be powerful enough?

My Hiper Type R 580w blew last week as well only mine took the motherboard with it. A DFI that i only just got too! Your rig is very similar to what mine was running before i moved over to 939. The difference being mine was a 754 3700+ clocked at 2.6ghz and an Epox 8NPA-SLI mobo. Same graphics cards though.

I suppose the psu could have damaged the card(s) but i would have thought it would have damaged the mobo first as mine did. That was all mine took with it luckily, or not, whichever way you want to look at it. Have you replaced it with a good quality (ie not cheapo) psu with a decent rating. If not it may be a power thing. I would have said drivers but as you already removed those and reinstalled it can't be. Either a card or the mobo i would guess at. Have you tried each card seperately?

Got another Hiper. My computers been running perfectly for the past week with the new PSU inside fine. Not seen a single problem until this happened today.

I'll run a memtest tomorrow see if I get any errors at all.

I'm going to run each card separately tomorrow, didn't have time today. I'll just run each one through 3dmark or something see if it can take it. If I dont find any problems with the gfx cards then I'll do the memtests.

Ran an Anti-virus today along with adaware and nothing found.

I'm glad these cards have a lifetime warrenty.

Thanks for the help, I'll update tomorrow.

Ok, just tested both my cards by themselves, primary was fine, ran both 3D Mark 03 and 05, no problems.

Secondary card, had artifacts on the boot screen and windows loading screen. Then after the windows loading screen the screen went black it was full of white artifacts and wouldn't display the login screen. Then my monitor stopp receiving a signal.

So I guess that card was the culprit. So I'll phone up BFG tomorrow and get it RMA'd.

Anyone know what BFG RMA process is like? Take long?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Logically if everything was fine before it must be the PSU

Also as PSU failed that's a sign You were pushing it

Get a quality Enermax 600W noise taker 2 from Overclockers

Hehe :p

Well it was working for a week with the new PSU in fine. Not a single problem until yesterday. Not sure why my secondary card has got all these artificats. Not noticed any high tempretures or anything.

I liked that card too. It's different from the rest of the BFG's i've seen. Got a copper heatsink on it with a bigger fan and some blue LEDs built into the heat sink. Never seen a BFG like it before. Shame its gotta go back though :(
Anyone else seen a BFG like that at all? Can get a pic if you like.
