Hi all!

I'm a bit out of the loop but have the following:

Phanteks Luxe 2 (custom watercooled)
10900K @ 5.4Ghz (Phanteks Glacier WB)
32GB Patriot Viper DDR3 RAM (custom timings but can't remember what!)
RTX 3090 w/Waterblock
Superflower 1000W Modular PSU

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU/Mobo/Memory and have specced the following on OcUK:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core 5.00GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail

I want a good overclocking board with the best possible memory in terms of speed and timings.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

With a 10900K @ 5.4 Ghz, then if you're playing at 4K, I wouldn't bother until you plan to upgrade to a 4090 or higher.

If you do want to upgrade, then my suggestion is to buy memory that's near half the price (you can get 64GB for £200+). Unlike the non-X3D, X3D CPUs don't care that much about memory, see here.

The board: not really anything 'wrong' with it, but do you want to spend £350 for a board that doesn't have PCI-E 5.0 graphics? My opinion is that if you're happy with PCI-E 4.0, you might as well save £100-£150 and buy the B650 Tomahawk.

if you're set on that ram, can be had for £157 away, but just standard vengeance rgb 6000c30 can be had for £130. Hardware unboxed do good roundup of x670 boards, and most recently b650 boards. the x670 chipset is 2 b650 chipsets welded together..just got to decide if you need the extra lanes. Bit more complex as some b650e boards can be better equipped than some x670 boards. Went Asus B650e-e and 7800x3d myself..overkill for me, but liked the led post code and pcie5 gpu slot, which prob will make no difference one jot, but you never know what gpu's will do in 3/4 years from now, but as below shows (and @Tetras points out), if you're not bothered about certain features, only a few boards should be avoided, most are more than capable so you could save yourself a bit...7800x3d not power hungry too, but who knows what the cpu's in the future will be

Looks good. That motherboard is very good for overclocking and should get the most from the CPU and Memory. The cream of the crop DDR5 is probably this kit.

Guys thank you kindly for the replies!

So, there is a certain game out recently which everyone is emulating hence why I want to up my CPU so that it runs smoother as Yuzu is CPU bound.

@jigger that G.Skill kit doesnt seem to be listed on OcUK...is there comparable memory on sale here?

I want to keep it all in house at OcUK.
