Bitfenix Alchemy LED Strip burned up

One of the above strips arrived today and I just 10 minutes ago unboxed it and plugged it into my psu via the molex adaptor. The strip worked fine for around 30 seconds, no obvious problems and the colour looked amazing.

Then it started crackling and all of the rubber shielding around one of of the cables of the extender cable burned up and started smoking. The LED strip was extremely hot. Of course it doesn't work now and I don't want to attempt to plug it back in without using the extender cable in case something else happens.

No idea what has happened and I googling doesn't provide any other experiences like this :confused:

You can see one of the cables with no rubber on as it all burned off and the others have melted together.

Sounds like its shorted out, manufacturing fault perhaps? Defiantly don't plug it back in!

Had the same thing happened to mine, had a nasty burning smell lingering in the room.

I suggest you contact Bitfenix, looks like they ought to look into that.

Wow, not good.

I've not heard of this happening before, but makes me wonder because I have one of these strips in my case. :confused:

Got one in my case too different brand though but loads of the UV leds have packed up, so effect somewhat diminished reluctant to buy anymore
