Hi, Im new to these forums so please tell me if I have posted in the wrong forum etc...

I'm looking to build or have built a 'gaming' pc, that I will mainly use for Internet and my Workload i.e using Microsoft Word

The one thing that i am going to say is that I would like the case to be a Bitfenix Prodigy in white, to resemble the design of the Mac Pro.

My budget is £400 or under. I just want something that will be speedy enough, so that there is no lag when having multiple windows in the browser, or in work-related applications and also look good (i.e components). I may in the future upgrade.

Also, I will be using Windows 8 if that helps, and it will be my first build.

Cheers!:D

P.s Ask any questions about the build and I will answer promptly.

Hi thank you for the reply, how much would a stylish optical drive be? How much do you reckon it would cost for someone to assemble this for me?

To be totally honest, do it yourself.
Trust me, it will feel so much better if you do it yourself, sit down one afternoon or something and build it. You can't do anything wrong, connectors only go in certain places and in certain ways and things are pretty much self explanatory.
I would do it for you if you don't feel up too it, if you live anywhere near me (sunderland).

All optical drives are....well....black on the front, so style isn't exactly an option with a white case unless you stealth it with modding.

Ok, When I get the parts I will give it a go and I guess the parts will come with manuals so I could do it myself. Thanks for the offer though, I live way too far away from you :L

Thanks for the builds! In your opinion should I go for a Intel build or a AMD build?

Having built both type of systems l have to say l prefer the Intel build, down the road you will be able to add a faster i5 or i7 Ivy depending on your needs and the dedicated GPU gives it a lot more grunt in gaming.

The AMD system does have its merits however l personally found it sluggish wrt SSD's and the crossfire with 6670 for me was not that outstanding wrt games, however my i5 + GTX 560Ti is a little overpowered for a media center.

You would have to invest in a higher rated PSU if you went the i7 + GPU route.

However out of the box performance in gaming the AMD 5800k is still good and handled WoT at a reasonable rate.

To give you and idea of gaming ability here are some of the scores my different MediaPC builds managed:

1: 5800K = P1355

2. 5800K + 6670 = P2251

3. 5800K + 7970 = P6805

4. 5800K + 560 Ti = P4388

5. i3 3220 + 560 Ti = P4568

6. i5 3550 + 560 Ti = P4885

Yes l liked to move kit about a lot lol.

As you can see if you did go down the AMD route you can still add a dedicated GPU, in comparison to the i3 3220 the 5800K is somewhat slower, however it does allow the GTX 560 Ti to stretch its legs, however with the HD 7970 is was a bottleneck.

Hope this helps somewhat.
