Decided that running multiple VM's on my home PC means it's running 24/7 and its a fairly noisy and hot PC for my home office so am going to build a basic server to begin with running Citrix XenServer as the host OS.

The host OS will be running several VM's.

DC/DNS/DHCP server - Server 2012
File & Print server - Server 2012
Streaming media and application server - Server 2008 R2

I have ordered the following parts due for delivery tomorrow

BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Cube Case - Midnight Black
Seasonic G series 360w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply
Gigabyte GA-E350N AMD Hudson M1 DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit

I also have the following bits spare from other builds

Corsair Force GT 60GB SSD
Western Digital 2TB Green HDD

I am not sure how well the motherboard with the APU will handle running a Citrix setup like I have planned so may well have to upgrade it to a more powerful setup in the future but my current domain isn't that taxing so it should be okay.

Will be running the Xenserver OS from the SSD and the server VM's on the 2TB HDD. This should leave me with plenty of room for file storage and plenty of room for expansion.

The entire setup will be backued up daily to a 900GB NAS on site.

Will be building the machine on Saturday afternoon so will update with pictures of the build in progress.

Any questions/advice more than welcome.
