hey all

I decided after some deliberation that i wanted to build a small rig again.

So i found the Bitfenix Prodigy!

Looking at it i found it plainly obvious that it would be very easy to fit water cooling in without any modding, so let the build log begin!

Everyone likes a parts list so here we go!

Things i will keep from previous build:
i7 2600k
Samsung green 8GB
Asus DirectCU2 7970 (with EK block)
XFX Pro1000W Platinum PSU <- Will be too long by far for this case!
Scyth Fan controller

New Stuff:
Bitfenix Prodigy Black
ASRock Z77E-ITX Motherboard <- Will allow me to upgrade cpu in future if required
new 3/8 fittings and blue tube
Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 240mm Dual Radiator : Full Copper
Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 120mm Single Radiator : Full Copper
Bitfenix 230 x 200 x 30mm Spectre PRO Black With White LED Case Fan
Bitfenix 120 x 120 x 25mm Spectre Black with Blue LED Case Fan x 3

The total Expenditure inc barbs was £204 Inc P&P for the Wcing and case.
And i managed to snag the motherboard for £100 from Amazon EU.

I feel i will be able to sell my FT02, Magicool 180x3 and Asrock P67 extreme 6 for a tidy sum as well, so the expenditure will be much lower.

The case and Wcing are due to arrive next week, And the Motherboard on 5th feb, I wont be starting to build till well after that date as i need to send my 7970 back to OCUK as its DVI-D port displays green flashing pixels.. truth be told i was supposed to do that months ago but due to needing a working pc for uni i haven't had the down time to wait weeks for it to come back.

Will Update when case arrives, will do a rad fitment!

peace and love

So, Guess what turned up!

I will be getting the case out later when i have cleared my desk of the junk that new sits upon it.

Next update will be of the rads put in there :D

So, I put the rads in there to see what they look like and if they fit how i want.. Guess what!

They fit fine, Had to put the single 120mm fan on the outside but thats not a big deal.

My only Annoyance with this is that i ALLWAYS use Push on my rads.. but the way this is going to be set up i will be forced to use pull.

I aim to have the front 230mm fan Pull into the case and the 3x 120 on the rads then pull the air from the case.

Hopefully this will do well

Update

The Asrock Mobo wouldn't arrive till next Monday and i need it tomorrow, So changed my order to the more expensive Asus Motherboard.

Will progress with this build tomorrow and return my 7970 for replacement!

The Asus Motherboard arrived, and i ordered it at 8PM!

My Plan for the next 3 hours:

Strip Waterblock, CPU, Ram, GPU, PSU, HDD's from FT02 and then draw up loop for new case

My Leak test of the new rads, Left to do this for 12 hours

You can see here the SSD, Unfortunatly i am not happy with how close it sits to the floor

So i used Mobo Raisers to rise it up!

two big HDD's mounted and now the SSD is hidden

Hello SSD!
20130129_121440_zpsc4c97474.jpg

You will notice i have put the DvD drive cage back in... There is a reason for this as i will say in a mo. Look new mobo!
20130129_135916_zpsb8df78c5.jpg

The cage is put back so that i can fit my Scythe fan controller, I like haveing the option for the fans to be off until absolutely required, this way when im working on some word document my pc is as slient as.. well silence...

This is how bad my desk gets when doing this!

And there is the Scythe!

PSU fitting time... Now I have a 1KW XFX Pro psu.. Its far to long for this case.
20130129_143233_zpsdaa972bc.jpg

Because this PSU costs around £180 and its the only one i can find that has the ability to turn its PSU fan OFF = Silent i have to find a way:

just enough room for wires
20130129_145642_zps12043df4.jpg

me being me, i forgot about photoes from here.. and plumed it all up

Now that's as far as i have got. You may notice the lack of a very long and tall 7970.. That is because the Dual Link DVI port went faulty and i had to send it back to OCUK for replacement.

The reason i rushed this is because i have important uni work to do, my i7 2600k has an iGPU so i am using that for now.

if you wish to know anything about the case, let me know.

Tasks for when GPU is back:

Fit Block on GPU
Plumb it in.
Remove Steel grill from case for 230mm fan and rear 120mm fan. (air flow suffers greatly due to these things)

Sorry if this log is rushed, and not what you would expect from others.

All the best
James

Steel Grill removed from 230mm place

Replacement 7970 was shipped friday for monday delivery, shame it wasn't sent for sat delivery as i would have paid the extra... though not given the option.

Will put that in there when it arrives, hopefully the DVI-D on the new card is not faulty

A big ask, but whilst you have your screwdriver out :)

I don't suppose you could do me a favour by removing the lower "flexi handle/stand" and posting one or two photos with it removed please? iirc its only 4 screws right? Specifically, I'd like to see the bottom of the sides of the case as i know the side panels don't come all the way down to the base of the case.

I'd like to build a pc with the prodigy and I was thinking of adding some normal rubber feet to it so instead of the 'flexi-stand' so the case didn't stand as tall.

Looks a nice build so far, good luck with the GPU when it arrives.
Thanks

Unfortunately the New 7970 has the exact same problem as the last, would actually say its worse to some extent, But yet again works fine with DP-DVID Adapters.

So i Lubed her up and mounted the Block!
Then Stuck her in the rig

Added the tubes

Wire management is hard in this case, But i will work on it at some point
20130204_132415_zps2f9b7d78.jpg

Oh and i got a new Front panel for it, I will be modding it with a 200MM hole in the correct place to line up with the inner fan.
20130201_104601_zps307e23ac.jpg

here are the temps:

i7 2600k @ 4.5Ghz (turbo max that i set) MAX LOAD
Core1: 64
Core2: 66
Core3: 66
Core4: 63

They idle in the 35-40 range

The GPU at max load in farcry3 is 53C and the CPU ranges around 55c

So not all bad in my eyes, yes the temps are higher than when in the FT02 but i feel the reduction in size was worth it, It looks Cute.
