Hello everyone,

I recently built my PC and I am using a BitFenix Shinobi case.

As soon as I saw the USB 3 plug I was baffled as there was a standard USB plug/wire coming off of it. So I just plugged in the USB 3 plug but left the other one as it wouldn't reach any of my standard USB headers.

I plugged all the other front panel connectors in, including another USB header cable. So, now I am left with a problem, only one of the USB 2 ports works on the front. Is this because I haven't plugged the USB 2 cable coming off of the USB 3 cable in? or should they both work off of the 1 header?

If need be I can unplug the USB 3 cable and plug the USB 2 in temporarily to see but I thought it might've been for backwards compatibility or something...

If anybody can shed some light on the subject then that will be appreciated. And if any more info is needed then just ask :D

Thanks,
Cam.

I have the usb3 and the separate usb cable connected and all the front sockets work as they should.
Have you tried connecting the usb cable to a different mobo header and maybe checking the connection to the front panel?

Thanks for the reply. I try with the cable in a different header then check the front panel connections.

Thanks,
Cam

Feel a right numptey now! Thanks mate, unplugged the connections and plugged them back in and it works. Must've got tugged as I installed the DVD drive.

Thanks very much,
Cam.

Hi all, not sure if anyone will see this post but I wanted your advice on the same case.

It came with two larger USB 3.0 sockets to go onto the motherboard but my mobo (gigabyte Ga-x79-ud5) only has one connection point and as result Only have 2 of the front 4 Ports working. Is there anything I can do?

Can you post a pic of the cables?
You should have two USB3 and two USB ports on the front panel.

The big, thick USB3 cable should go into the mobo socket just below the 24pin connection and the separate usb cable (not the one connected to the usb3) should go to one of the mobo sockets at the bottom of the board.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll post some pics right after Christmas. I assumed 4x blue USB Ports on the top of the case meant 4x USB 3.0.. My other 2 Ports power a drive but windows doesn't detect any hard drive so something is definitely not right..

Exactly my problem, i just had to re connect my connections as they were slightly loose

hope that helps

Cam. Oh, and merry christmas :-)

grr tried my charging port out today for the first time and that doesnt work either!! So out of the 5 ports on the front panel (4 usb 3.0 and 1 charge port) only 2 work!!

If I'm not talking nonsense, doesn't the charging port need to be connected to a supercharged USB 2.0 header?

My MSI MPower has a RED USB 2.0 header for this exact function I believe. If it is this, is there anything labeled on the G43?

Hey guys, is anyone still looking at this thread? I really hope so..

After researching my gigabyte ga-x79-ud5 I THINK It can ot support 4 usb 3 ports and 2 have to be on the back. It comes with a 2 port header to be mounted in the front of the case but I plugged 1 of the cases 2 headers into the usb 3 socket instead. I think that's why 2 of my blue usb 3 case ports are usb 3 and the other 2 are only usb 2..can someone confirm?

This then leaves the issue of the charging port not working.. I don't know which cable I'm meant to connect to which socket for this but at the moment it's doing nothing!

Would love to get this charging port working as it's one of the main reasons I got this case.

Thanks in advance
David

Hi.

Just had a quick look at your board and I can only see a single internal USB3.0 port (next to the 24pin power)

The case will have a USB connector that fits this, giving you two USB3.0 working ports on the case.

I believe the case will then have another USB3.0 internal connector with a USB2.0 spur coming of this, you connect this spur into one of the USB2.0 ports on the board along the bottom edge. That then means you have USB2.0 only for the other two USB3.0 ports.

*this may not be correct though as I don't have this case. it may only have a single USB3.0 connector and a normal USB2.0 connector.

The charging port is powered by a SATA power connector which needs to be connected directly to the PSU and nothing else.

Thanks stulid think you are spot on with the usb 3 thing. I can live with that but need to get the charging port working! Where should I be looking on the case for the sata connector? It it labelled do you know?

Well it should just be a standard SATA connector dangling around with the other bunch of cables somewhere.

Remove the back side panel and have a look around, maybe follow the cables along where they go into the roof?

well.. just as you said, it was indeed floating around in there.

I found it, connected it, loved it, realised it didnt work when the pc was off (unlike charging via the standard USB ports), hated it, and cursed buying the case :)
