brought 2 of these fans today with some Akasa Aluminium 14cm fan filters as they are rated quieter than the corsair 140mm but they are loud could it be the filters ?

Fan noise ratings mean nothing...it all depends on how the manufacturer tests them.

You can generally have a good idea of how loud a fan will by by its RPM. Other factors are bearing quality and fan blade design.

In my opinion anything over 1,000 rpm on a 140mm is too loud. 600rpm is where I keep mine.

You should be able to control the speed with your motherboard if its connected to it.

i removed the filters and it made no difference, im guessing its because they are mounted on a side window as the others i have the same just without leds are silent,

the bitfenix fans are crap.

I have 2 140mm spectre pro led fans and they are the worst fans ive owned.
They dont shift much air and are too noisy, also they make the odd scratchy noise when put on a fan controller.
The OCUK tech labs golf fans which cost £3 are better!

found the problem its the venting through the side window that makes the noise so looks like a modified side window is a must if u wanna run 140mm fans on a corsair c70.
