Hi Guys!

Kul1 hasn't been around here for a while now has he... That's cause he's told me that I could give him the big boot to his big bottom :p Kidding. In all due respects, he's a very busy man, and he's asked me to jump in here.

Now, Kul1 and the rest of the team, are located in the wee little island called Taiwan. Myself on the other hand, I'm in Vancouver Canada, a couple thousand miles away from them. Kul1 isn't "gone" forever, as he might be popping in and out occasionally.

I've been snooping for about a week now, and this forum is quite an interesting place to be. A lot of open minds here :D

Anyways, over the course of the next week or two, I hope to bring you guys some exciting news from BitFenix.

Cheers for now!

Ooh, another BitFenix rep :)

This exciting news... would it happen to be an end-user review of a Shinobi XL :) *hint hint*, or actually anything about the Shinobi XL :)

Welcome though, and it should be interesting to have another rep. Hope you bring us some nice interesting ideas :)

Actually, I was hoping you guys would bring us some interesting ideas ;)

I have a good camera and know how to use it. By this I mean make your gear look good. :D And I've got all my gear now to fill it out. *cough*

Ideas you say, I can throw hundreds at you :)

Shinobi XL
  • No grill on the Shinobi XL side window - but don't think that's coming, but if I say it to enough people who might be able to do something about it the chances are increased :)
  • A white Shinobi XL would probably be quite popular, although I'm not sure I'd get it myself.
  • All the current accessories for the Shinobi - e.g. the coloured strips, would be nice on the XL
  • I would have liked to have seen a split hard drive cage, so if we do install a Rad in the bottom, there would still be HDD support without having to buy 5.25-2.5 bay adaptors.
  • Would have been nice for it to have a Fan controller built in as a lot of similar priced cases in this bracket now have this feature. However as it's no doubt WAY to late in dev to do it on the Shinobi XL, see below. Although you might want to consider it for future cases.

I should probably say, I do actually absolutely love the Shinobi XL, and one of the reasons I know what I'd like to see in it, is because I've spent the last half a month since pictures of it have been released, working on what I could do with it over summer, when I get a bit of modding time :) I'm also aware that quite a few of these ideas are unachievable as you're no doubt quite far along the development process. However maybe it's some ideas for future cases.

The Prodigy
Looks pretty cool. Quite excited about that one - even though again I won't get one because it doesn't really suit my needs. But big amounts of respect for it. It's really bringing completely new ability to people who want to play with that FF. Looks like it'll make an absolutely stonking LAN rig or the such like. Easy carry handles and you could put like a watercooled Gene IV and 580 in there by the looks of it.

Accessories
  • Would be interesting if we could custom order Alchemy set ups and stuff. But I think that might increase costs too much. But if there was like a setup on the BitFenix website where we could directly order like a custom combination alchemy cable extension. That would be pretty cool. I'm aware it might not be particularly achievable. But might as well mention it.
  • What I would absolutely LOVE to see from you guys though is a fan controller. I have two ideas being an optical drive one combined with the Shinobi optical Drive stealth cover, so it's nicely hidden away, or in fact any kind of fan controller that could sit slightly further back in an optical drive bay so you could still put a cover or the such like over it, but flip the cover down if you want to get to the knobs etc... basically so it's hidden rather than having either some horrific LCD screen, or loads of knobs on the front of a PC. Alternatively a fan controller that could subtly sit in a PCI bracket slot. A bit like what you guys did with the Hydra. But if that had fan support it would be awesome :) So the knob wouldn't be on display on the front of the PC, but could still be changed if needed

I think that's pretty much it of the top of my head ;)

Nice! Another rep, welcome! :D More free stuff then!?!?! :p :D

Speaking of which, is kul1 going to be sending me a shinobi XL to review and post here and on neowin (which should hopefully get on the front page as well, whilst being tweeted by people/computer companies/sites with LOTS of followers)?

Whoop! :D

My review of the Raider has been posted on the main news page of neowin.net!

http://www.neowin.net/

:D

indeed very good... tempted to send over an XL if you have use for it :)

I would love to take the opportunity to see the XL in action and write up the review to post here and on neowin, hopefully get the front page again! :)

I am also more than happy to review any BitFenix products (be it cables, fans, accessories, cases etc.) for you guys, for free :)

(PS. Also very very interested in that BitFenix Ghost case *cough* :p)

I did a review of the Raider and you asked for some feedback/ideas, well in that review, I have included my thoughts on what I would like to be improved/tweaked and this could also apply to future cases as well:

Or if you want, you could read it here instead :p, where it got featured on the front page and tweeted 21 times by computer sites/companies/people that have A LOT of followers :D

Welcome xbournex, just like to pass my thanks on to the rest of the bitfenix team, Bitfenix products seem to be getting better and better as well as a constantly increasing product range all at good prices. Was very happy with the spectre pro fans Kul1 was kind enough to send my way.

One future request, how about some 180mm fans? Choice is pretty limited to either silverstone or phobya, be nice to have some more competition for that size especially as I will be using 4 x 180mm on a 1080 rad at some point soon :D

Send me some of those awesome spectre pro fans to match the ones I just bought ;D

What colour and size are you after? Have some left over from my review that will end up on the MM at some point :)

Yikes. 3 Hours of sleep and I've got an essay to write... Ah well. Here goes :D

-Shinobi XL: announcement should be available in the coming week or two. In regards to a white Shinobi XL, we first release a base SKU, watch the market react, and then strike where necessary. Not a bad idea with the original accessories. We do include 1 5.25"-2.5/3.5" adaptor. There's way more features (water wise) to compensate for a fan controller. (See bottom for more on fan controller)

Custom combination of alchemy cables? What do you mean by that?

Announcement for fan controllers should be available in the coming weeks as well. I'm very excited for these ones too.

One thing I would like to mention, is that Kul1 is still in charge of sending samples in this forum. That's one thing he's not giving up. So... he's the one you guys should be buying beer for... :p Typically, for me, when I do end user reviews, I not only cater a specific target market, but to people who have lots of things to compare to. I think anyone could get a good camera, restate the manufacturer specs, and then write a blurb saying "I like this part, because it's great for this part". Basically, a generic review, you know what I mean? Those reviews aren't "bad", as it does get publicity, but if you were a reader, your reaction would probably be "Yeah, I could written that review the same way too. Format pictures, manufacturer specs, blurb, done"

180mm fans... Hrm.. I do believe they are just smaller 200mm's are they not? Do you have any fan mount dimensions? 180mm x 4 = 720, yes? 1080 rad....

By custom cables, I kind of mean a bit like, custom braiding. So like people might do with MDPC sleeve, but if we could get stuff off of Bitfenix it would be quite cool. Like a design your own pattern, sleeve the cables as you want, but Bitfenix churns it out at their factory, and sends them all perfectly done as Alchemy cables.
To try and make it clearer, a bit like the following system.
p1010878u.jpg
As I said, I'm not sure it's really as achievable because I'm not sure how it isn't really something where you can mass produce... but it's a cool idea, as some of the brighter colours can have too much of a presence if it's all one colour...

I'll look for the announcement regarding the Fan Controller, but please don't make them a similar generic setup. The market for these traditional fan controllers is already quite saturated, so yeah, hopefully it'll be something subtle, discreet, and different :)

Phobya make a specific fan mount cage to have 4 x 180mm rather than 9 x 120mm fans on their 'Nova Extreme 1080' radiator. I know the math doesn't add up at all but trust me it works :)

Not too sure about the hole spacing, can't find for sure if 180mm fans have the typical 54mm spread that 200/230mm fans do, though the phobya extreme 200mm radiator does state it will take a 200 or 180mm fan. even if they did line up I'm not too sure I'd get 4 of them on the adaptor plate as the over hang from the 200mm fans would clash with each other.

Edit: this image shows the problem of having 200mm fans on as apposed to 180mm fans. Could be an option but with only 2 fans. http://i41.tinypic.com/2nk4b55.jpg

Hmm,

Fan controller looks pretty cool - especially the phone interaction... Saying that though, it is still an LCD display on the front of a PC :(

Any idea on price/ can you give any hints? Is it going to be similar to similar products price wise, or is it going to do the BitFenix thing of good product, for unbelievable price?

I might be tempted by LCD if it is the right price... but I'm still unsure...

kd

Can't say anything about the price...

Hrm.. that Phobya looks interesting. If the 180mm fans actually have, 180mm x 180mm mounts on the holes, Then I would say it would fit (2 on each side).

We do have the mounts on both our 200 and 230, but like said in picture (which fan is that?). The blades are wider than 180mm. What I would do, is grab our strongest, 230mm fan, and attach 2 on each side. I believe 180mm was Silverstone's idea of their "own" fan, and that's why it isn't really a standard.
