Can anyone recommend me a GooD router.
I have a linksys WRT54GS (as my mate had one - No problems including games)

I have extreme lag on server connection with Steam so i get about 200 servers with a high ping on CS TF2 etc (fine once i join - but limits selection)

command and conquer (any, inc RA3) connects for about 30seconds then dies online!

I have tried everything... port forwarding, triggering.
NOTHING WORKS! after 2 years am fed up.

I just want to split the connection and make it wireless for the family laptop.

Please help?

router Defo going on the santa list.

As it's out of warranty, why not try a different firmware, look for tomato firmware although there are others. You might want this moving to the network and internet connectivity forum for a better response.

BTW I have the same router with no issues, it's v1.1

I will move to the network forum sorry.

I did update the firmware too about 7months ago as a effort to fix but had no joy i will post what version i have in a minute.

can i ask what tomato is??? am not really up on my networking as it drives me crazy.
also go you play games and not have this problem.
My internet and downloads are fine and run at no effected speed. but connections in games and some other applications seem to get through at a struggle.

thanks

It's the hardware version I quoted, the same model has been through many variations. The hardware version is quoted on the base next to the model number

Tomato

yeah i was just running through the linksys site again.
I have version 6.0 with firmware v1.50.9 ( the latest)

I think my friends mentioned earlier was a older version. could i ask which yours is..?
Could be thing with later ones.

Thanks for link also.

Edit : i will read through the notes, but before i install this tomato(i will try anything) would you know if you are able to clone your PC's MAC address with it - needed for my internet(won't bore you)

I don't think Tomato will work with version 5 and above, they're different hardware insides.

There are other firmwares though. Like I say the network forum would be best for this question, you will get a better response there.

The standard version of firmware for the v1.1 that I have is v3.37.2, not sure how that would help you as essentially you have a different router.

ok, thanks for the help.
As is stands it looks like the older models are more suited to what i need.

Cheers
