hi,

So, ongoing issues with encryption at work.

I had a Win 7 Pro laptop, now upgraded to Win 10 Pro.

I started Bitlocker and got an error message about TPM, turned that on in the BIOS and started Bitlocker again and encryption started without asking for a password although I have a Key for it.

On a reset the laptop just loads normally, it doesn't ask for a decryption password as I would have expected.

Anyone any good guides for TPM/Bitlocker?

Looks like I am going to have to restart the entire process but with no TPM password I am not sure how easy it will be.

As far as I'm aware, if you have a TPM you won't be asked for a password upon boot. If the hard drive was moved to another computer it would require the Bitlocker recovery key for it to be accessible in any way. You also can't use a password reset CD on a computer with Bitlocker on, I've tried. So your computer is as secure as your logon password really.

If you want to be prompted for a password, have a look at this - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6229/how-to-use-bitlocker-on-drives-without-tpm/

That would involve disabling the TPM then allowing the use of Bitlocker without a TPM chip.
