Bits and pieces for a new upgrade, suggestions?

Hey,

WEll both me and my friend want to get rid of our current systems and get the following things:

Conroe E6300
2GB DDR2 Ram (which brand/type) (my imagination, or have ram prices been on the rise?)
Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA motherboard skt775 VIA PT880

The reason that board, is cause we both have AGP graphics cards, so just want a nice cheap "intro" in to Conroe... I am not so bothered about a great card at the moment, until maybe C&C comes out (and maybe Bioshock unless I get that on the 360)

I also need a suggestion at a PSU (because mine isnt great)
Lastly, I need a suggestion at a DVD writter (mine is dead at the moment)

For overclocking, I am not bothered about a massive clock increase, just pretty much a nice nudge from its 1.8GHZ to something like 2.3 or 2.4.

I've always bought Enermax PSU's and found them to be great and never had one die on me. I had a 460w running this rig with this OC but already had an Enermax 600 on it's way. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

As for DVD writing, it's a pretty mature technology. I bought a new one and just went for the cheapest black one. Whic in this case turned out to be Benq. No problems with it so far.

I kinda guessed that the DVD writter wouldnt really matter, so yay there

Thanks for the advice on the PSU though, I know very little about them. I have heard good things of the one you mentioned (Enermax) Tagan and Antec.

Lastly, anyone have any advice on a pair of 1GB DDR2 ram sticks? (obviously a matched pair for 2 GB total)

I heard recently of someone running a similar setup to mine on an Antec 380w :eek:

He only upgraded because he was going 8800

As regards to the RAM, well my GEILs pretty cool but not the best clocker. Other people have been getting much better and the G.Skill seems popular too. I'm a bit out of date as I've not done any research since building this rig. Your best bet is have a good brows through the posts on the memory forum and maybe post yourself.
