Bizarre browser woes

Hi folks, me again. Not having a good week of it...

So, I got my fresh-install driver issues out of the way, but now have a new problem.

The only web browser that works is Edge. Both Chrome and Opera refuse to connect to any sites at all. They work fine in my housemate's user profile, but not mine.
I've tried all the suggested fixes online (netsh. reset commands, clearing logs, ensuring firewall permissions, defaulting everything etc) but to no avail...
Everything else is working properly, I can download from Steam or seemingly anywhere else, but cannot surf on either browser.

If anyone has any clues, I'd be eager to hear them. I hate Edge...

It's a total clean install anyway!
Having reinstalled Windows half a dozen times in two days, I'm anxious not to do it again if I can avoid it... Particularly the 1803 update, which took almost 4 hours to install.
Odd thing is they work in another user profile. Odd...

What version are you updating from? Download the 1803 iso from Microsoft using the tool.

Your machine should not be behaving this way, windows is fickle sometimes but never this bad.

It's been one of those weeks. I might try my old trick of ignoring the problem for a week or two. I can deal with Edge I guess.

Maybe some new update somewhere will make a difference. I can't be dealing with any more nonsense for a week or two or there'll be a PC-shaped hole in my window soon...

Are you 100% sure it’s the latest ISO file from Microsoft?

Download the latest version and install it again. Problems like this have existed for a long time I still see the same problems on here been asked time n time again for years!

Sigh... I guess that'll probably have to happen.

Had the media creation tool still sat in my downloads from a couple of months ago.
I ran it, and made a USB... I assume it can't have been the latest version if it had to download a huge update!
Just hoped someone had a magic bullet. Hey ho.

Cheers folks.

A friend had the exact same problem on a fresh install. A quick google shows complaints of this issue going back as far as 2012. After a lot of troubleshooting, my best guess is that windows defender and/or firewall is doing something to Chrome. I had success when disabling them. A lot of the googled threads had a similar issue where malware bytes was preventing Chrome working, hence why I looked at the Windows security options.

I take it you've done hardware tests for cpu, memory and hard disks if you've had to re-install 6 times and still having issues?
