hey, past few days been having problems with slow internet speeds. rather than being @ 9.8MB it was lower around 1-4MB all the time. now i phone up virgin media and got through to an india call centre after 25 mins of waiting and found it quite hard to understand the guy as he had a rather strong accent was was speaking pretty quietly, i asked him to speak louder and he did but would soon go quiet again xP

i had done all the usual shizz with unplugging, replugging rebooting etc etc, and he asked me to plug the pc straight into the modem and i was still getting slow speeds and he said there is work going on blah blah blah we are looking to fix it.... but my mate who lives up the road still had fine internet.

so ive been playign around today and when i plug my pc in direct now it works fine back up to 9.8MB, but as soon as i plug the routher in it went to 1-4 again....
..the plot thickens.....

so i thought humm lets take out the power line adapters.... and lo and behold the net speed went back up again.... but what was also weird was that using wifi was also reduced with the powerline plugged in...

(BTW it goes MODEM>ROUTER>PWR LINE>PC)

why should the powerline adapter affect the wireless?!?!?!?

so ive investigated further, i tried the powerline in again and the speed was still slow, so i unhooked it from the power surge multi tap and stuf it in the wall at the modem end (pc adapter still in different surge protector) and the speed went back up again.... ah ha so it doesnt like my surge protector!?!?!

but it's been flawless in there for about 4-5 months now.... why has it suddenly developed issues... nothing new has been plugged in...... so i tried a different multi tap (non surge) and with that one it was somewhere inbetween.... not 1-4, not 9+ but hovering around 7ish.....

so for now ive left it in the wall but i would like to get it on the surge protector again as being in wales we have ruibbish weather and ive lost a few modems in the past from not using protection ;)

any one have any suggestions? dont know if i can take em back and say they faulty as they work in the wall, the say performace maybe affected in multi taps but its been fine for months so why now?

also been reading on forums about slow speeds and people posting router info so here goes:
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 7
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 10.8 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.8 dB
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 1
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 46.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

apparently my "Downstream Receive Power Level" should be close to zero? is mine a bit high?
