Got Virgin internet installed at my new house at university today (well, yesterday), but noticed that whenever I open up uTorrent and it starts downloading (might even just be opening the program, it's not based on how fast it's downloading/uploading), my browser stops getting any connection. It just gets the 'page cannot be found' page, like there was no connection (but there is, because uTorrent is downloading).

I have the same broadband provider at home (home home not uni home), and it worked perfectly there, but now I have this new connection at uni the two never work together. You turn uTorrent on, browser stops working, close uTorrent, it starts again.

I haven't done anything like trying a new torrent program yet, but I will do some time, just wanted to know what you guys thought the problem could be. Thanks.

I'd imagine it's probably due to the amount of connections uTorrent is establishing. Have you tried limiting them in Options > Preferences > Bandwidth > "Number of Connections" ?

OCdude is most likely right. uTorrent is likely using too many connections, and the router is unable to cope with the amount / turn over.

I think that's the problem. However, it still does it even if i put max connections all the way down to 10 (was 300). Is the free router you get just really really bad?

Did you reboot the router? Sometimes when they overflow they can take a long time to release.

It shouldn't be so bad that lowering all the way down to 10 doesn't fix it thou.

Have to tried limiting upload and download speed a bit too? It isn't maxing out your line is it?
