Yesterday, a colleague moved an ESXi box from one site to another. Just before he did this, he changed the root pass.
We get to site, the root pass doesn't work. I roll my eyes and we try all manner of capslock on/off and usual passwords. It eventually turns out there is no password set. OK...
Log into the box with the VSphere client and there is nothing in the inventory. WTF? Check the datastore and all the guests are still there?!
In summary:
1. Change password (he is not the type to get this wrong tbh)
2. Move box
3. Password has 'reset' along with everything else but disk images appear to be intact
FYI: This is just an ESXi 4.1 sitting atop a new R610 with local storage.
Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue before?
We are only just looking at VMWare and this does not inspire confidence
