Bizarre Wired Connectivity Problem

Hi guys,

When I connect up to my home network through a wired ethernet, facebook, but only facebook, refuses to load properly. Every other webpage I've tried works fine. Once every few minutes one of the pages might load, but then I just get a spinning "loading" icon.

However, if I wirelessly connect to the network, not a problem. Loads instantly.

For those who may be wondering, I can't use wireless permanently due to having a wireless mouse that suffers interference... (lesson learnt!)

I've reset routers to factory, uninstalled browsers etc etc. Driving me barmy.

Any ideas?

What happens if you load it via IP address rather than dns name?

Have you enabled any filtering either on router or workstation that could block only on certain adaptors.

Also perhaps different DNS settings between wired and wireless adaptors?

Does sound pretty strange!

Ta for reply.

Not sure how to do the first, pardon my ignorance.

Haven't enabled any filtering, specifically went through everything I could think that might be doing that and turned it off/disabled to check it wasn't that.

Also not sure how I would check the DNS, sorry for being no help haha!

Rather than typing www.facebook.com, try putting 69.171.247.21 into your address bar.
That will test the DNS.

Although saying that, I just got an average ping of 100ms so something at FB end is not great IMO

Thanks, tried that and it reacts the same as trying to load through the address name, doesn't load on wired but as soon as Wifi it's absolutely fine, really quick in fact.

i have problems with sites like hotmail doing this in the past - ended up changing the MTU size setting in the router config pages to something smaller from the windows 1500 default setting iirc
//snap!!
