Bizzare Screen Flashing

Hey folks!

I'm having this slightly odd problem with my computer. Periodically (maybe twice a week or so) my screen will go black, and after a few seconds it'll come back, but the image will have some strange effects going on. Sometimes multi-coloured lines going across the screen, sometimes things missing from whatever should be on screen, that sort of thing.
Now it'll do this switching on and off for a few minutes and then it'll settle back down, but if you click anything on the task bar, it'll do the exact same thing.
Restarting the machine sorts the problem out, and it won't occur again for a good few days.
I've checked my temps of CPU and GFX card and both are sitting at comfortable temps.
I'm up to date with Drivers as far as I'm aware.

My specs as follows:
P4 550 @ 3.4Ghz
Microstar MS-7091 Mobo
1GB PC3200 RAM
------------------ These three were stock items from my old PC
XFX Geforce 7900GT
Tagan 530W PSU
------------------- These were upgrades from what I previously had.
All of this is in an Antec P180 case, with my internal fans set at medium atm.

Medion 30919 TFT Monitor.

Now I'm aware this is in no way a nice rig, and I'm looking to upgrade CPU+Mobo+RAM ASAP, but does anyone happen to have any clue what this could be?
It feels graphics card related, but with my card sitting at average temps (around 60-65), I'm up to date with drivers, and it only being 4 months old I'm not so sure.

Cheers, Tom.

Almost certainly a graphics card issue - probably the memory on the card. It could only be that or the monitor, so ideally you want to find out which by hooking up a different monitor to the rig for a few days if you can.

Oooh a fellow shottingham resident!

Thanks for the response, I'll have to see if I can borrow a monitor from someone. I've been contemplating on getting a widescreen monitor soon anyway, so maybe it's time for a complete rig overhaul when I get paid :)
