I rarely post on these forums, because TBH my Macbook 1.1 Black with Intel Core Duo processor (2006 model) has been running like a dream. I picked it up in Canada in 2006 for little under £700 and it has been my longest running laptop.
Anyways, lately it seemed the toll of software updates etc was slowing it down somewhat. So sitting here in the US (on holiday), I decided to inject some speed into the old beast by purchasing a Kingston 64GB SSD - for, wait for it, £36 (including mail in rebate - $65!!). I wish I had got more than one now!
Putting the SSD into the old Macbook - although it is still running SATA1 has transformed it into a very nippy machine indeed. The bootup time has more than halved and software is as responsive as it used to be when I originally got it. I even think battery life has improved, although this might be psychological!
Moral of the story, if you haven't already upgraded to an SSD you definitely should! (I got an SSD for my PC in November 2010 and have never looked back!).
