hi all,

I'm in a real mess here :(

Had a PC with high CPU temps so I checked the cpu, cleaned it with akasa cleaner (from ocuk incidentally) and applied the paste.

Stuck the HS down and booted the PC up and the monitor was blank, no leds came up on the keyboard neither.

This has happened to me before and that time i had applied too much paste. So I thought the same had happened here. Cleaned the HS again and applied the paste again.

Tried again, no avail. Repeated the steps and now I dont know how but no matter how much I clean the chip the writing has disappeared. Maybe its from rubbing it too hard/too much but the main problem is I've cleaned both the HS and the Chip as much as I can and I cannot get the monitor to come on, nor the leds on the keyboard.

What can I do??

Have you got LEDs showing on the motherboard to show it has power?

Check all cables to make sure you haven't disturbed anything, things tend to not work just because they've been disturbed and somethings not making contact properly..

If you have definately got power, everything spinning up but still no picture (or keyboard lights) you might have a failed motherboard. Worth reseating graphics card etc clearing CMOS in case the bios has got its nknickers in a twist.

Good luck,

I'd remove your graphics card and reseat it, could have hit off it when removing the CPU cooler, and like evil said check all your cables

Do the fans spin up? If you get nothing then the mobo sounds like it's not posting. Have you tried clearing the CMOS? I'd also check that the CPU is in properly and that you haven't bent any pins in the mobo socket.

If you don't even get a standby LED on the motherboard when the PSU is on, but the system not booted, then the finger is pointing either at your PSU, or the motherboard. Check for loose cables as a first port of call - did you disconnect the 4pin ATX and forget to plug it back in maybe?
