Hi.

I built my daughter a pc at xmas and put a second hand gtx 950 in it ( its sufficient for her needs)

I think this is the culprit but wanted to see what the forums take on it was.

Its got a gaming 3 mobo and a 1600 in it so needed the separate GPU.

If i boot into safe mode it works fine, however if i boot normally into windows 10 after 60 seconds or so on the desktop the screen turneds black.

Am i right in assuming the GPU is faulty?

Thanks in advance

Try going to safe mode and uninstalling all display drivers, I think there's a tool called DDU.

Then reboot and install drivers. If it doesn't work, try an older driver, one you know worked before ideally.

Thanks for the response. yeah tried this mate.

same, can login and see the display drivers are now not installed with low resolution but still goes off after a minute or so

So after weeks of messing and changing parts round I found the issue.

For some reason the the 1600 was being overclocked to 3.8 and didn't like it ( i cant recall setting it to that ).

anyway dropped it down to 3.4 and its running fine.

Painful lesson that

TBH that just sounds like the boost clock at work, however if its not boosting to it correct speeds and remaing stable, then id consider it as a faulty part.

EDIT: just checked out the speeds, its stock is 3.2ghz and self boost to 3.6ghz, just leave it auto in the bios, should be fine for your daughter.
