I have a HIS 5870 1GB and ive had it about a year now. I just got a new cpu. gpu and ram. obv I just re-installed windows as well.

Now the problem i'm having is this:

When I try to install ati drivers, after it reboots, the screen flixers and comes back black. this is after you see the windows logo animation. I've tried the latest drivers and 10.2 and 10.3 but none of these work.

The best I got was loading windows background in 1920*1080 but nothing else. no icons no task bar etc. Nothing but the mouse.

I read somewhere it's a bios verson. Can anyone help me please?

this happened in my work... it turned out that the driver was defaulting the screen to the DVI port if the system was powered up with no screen attached. The problem was our system didnt have a DVI port! in order to fix it we had to press Ctrl+ 1 key combo to switch the output source... The was unfortunately a intel embedded chipset but maybe something similar could be your answer!

Is your bios modded? I've seen similar happen with modded 6870 bios's. Seems odd though if the card was working fine before your rebuild. May be worth backing up the cards bios and reflashing it with the latest stock one just in case though.

i seemed to have stumbled across a fix. it was def a driver issue.

I swapped out the 5870 for a 3850 i had and after i installed drivers it worked fine. I un-intalled it and put the 5870 back in and when it booted into win7 it asked me to restart. so i did and when i came back, it had installed the drivers without me doing anything.

so it may of been because 2 drivers were being installed im not sure. but its working now.

Oh and the bios was stock, and the monitors are DVI :)
thxs for the help
