Black screen boots

Im running a 7850 and have had continual problems recently with black screen on boot. If I power off and unplug, holding restart buttons often it seems to come back on. Sometimes it will take 8 or 9 restarts to fix, but it works just fine.

I can play anything on decent settings and have no issues with heat, its only on restarts that problems arise.
Would this be suggestive of a faulty power supply or card?

What PSU are you using?

Also, is your motherboard bios uptodate? If not, updating it might help.

I had this issue with exactly the same MSI 7850 and posted about it here on the forums. At first I thought I had solved it by disabling Windows 8.1 Fast Startup but that appeared to simply be coincidence that it worked for a few days, it would still randomly boot to a pitch black screen and like you I had to reset the PC sometimes up to half a dozen or so times before it would boot up. Then it seemed like if I had anything plugged into the front USB ports on my case it wouldn't boot. Again, pure coincidence and this wasn't the issue.

Don't want to be the bearer of possible bad news but about a fortnight later the card started artifacting badly when playing games. Then a few days later it started artifacting and giving BSOD's even just sat on the desktop idling. I ended up RMA'ing it. Prior to all this it was working just fine as you mentioned yours is/was.

How old is the card, do you have any warranty left on it? You may be lucky but an RMA may be the only way to resolve it. I Googled the issue for ages to try and find a solution to no avail. Some folk have had a bit of luck upping the voltage or slightly underclocking the card but your mileage may vary.
