I have an issue with my HIS 2600xt 512mb, I "think" it's overheating but i couldnt say for sure.

Basically whats happening is that in any game after a while it just black screens and i get a sound judder, then silence and i have to push the reset button.

I've added additional 120mm fans to the front of the case, even re-seated the heatsink with fresh thermal paste but it still does it.

I've checked in the CCC and the GPU seems to get up to about 60 degree's or so before it craps out, I can't say for sure as I am in game when it happens but I have also got it to happen using rthdribl which is pretty graphics intensive but I really don't get it.

Running latest Cat's from the ati website, winxp sp2 with all updates.

I didn't think 60/65 degree's was that bad?

It could be a Voltage Regulator Module problem. I get the same thing with my HIS x1950 pro. The core stays nice and cool, but the VRM heats up to 115+ sometimes and then I get the black screen crash. It might be worth feeling the VRM when you have the core working 100% to see how hot it gets...

Evidently this was a very common problem on the first revision of my card, and HIS released a 2nd revision with a heatsink on the VRM to keep it cooler.

VRM?

Don't know where that is however when it crashes i put the back of my hand on the card and the GPU isn't "that" hot but there is a part of the card, towards the back by the faceplate which is super ridiculous hot.

Is that where the VRM is? The only thing that the heatsink is touching is the GPU which is a bit strange considering the bloody size of the thing.

Put another fan on the side of the case blowing air directly across the gfx card and just managed to play crysis for 30mins or so, guess it is that thing.

Will HIS take it back?
