Is there a way i can make the video black for a few seconds before it fades into my film?

yes
you just drag everything to the right so that there is a bit of nothing before your video.
Just remember when you are exporting to use the timeframe thingy about the timelines, and you slelect your entire film with the gap at the beginning. If you only choose to export the video then it will leave out the gap.
