hi guys,
my trusty old 360(bought on day 1)has finally given up the ghost. All I get is a black screen, although everything seems to be working sound etc but no video output. No red rings of death either.Anyhow, good excuse to buy a nice shiny new console. my question is how can I transfer all my data to new console? Problem being, I can't see the dashboard to see what I am doing.
It's mainly saved games and my profile I need to transfer.

Standard answer: Oven bake and x-clamp fix. Works every time on 'no video' consoles, and on average seems to last much longer than if it actually red-ringed. I know I sound like a stuck record, but it's such an easy fix you might as well go for it.

As for transferring the savegames, easiest option would be just buy/borrow a Microsoft transfer cable.

using the transfer cable, would I be able to transfer from the old console to the new with the new console dashboard on screen? What I mean is, do I set up the new console and download the data without the old unit being conected to a tv/monitor?
May have a go at a repair any way, but I am treating myself to a new 360 250gb and if repair sucessful will give old one to my nephew.

The old console doesn't come into it when using the transfer cable. You remove the HDD from the old console, plug it into the transfer cable, then plug the other end into a USB socket on the new console.

The only potential problem here, is if you have a Jasper console with the built in memory card (I forget the capacity) and you have stuff stored there. You can't remove it to transfer the data.

thanks DreXeL got it now.
Will have a go at repairing the old console, after all nothing ventured.
many thanks again.
