Black screen on game start - 7970M

so, like a fool, I installed the 13.6 beta 2 mobility drivers and now any time I start a game I just get a black screen (noise indicates the game is loading as it should do, I can even up arrow and hit enter to quit back to desk top)

I've tried reinstalling previous drivers, I've tried a driver sweeper and reinstalling previous drivers, I've tried reinstalling the games in question, I've tried restoring a restore point,

any other tips from AMD users to get back to working without completely reinstalling windows like I had to last time?

Have your tried reinstalling previous drivers. If so are they also doing the same blank screen?

I have indeed, same thing, its as though the newest drivers have overwrite a file somewhere that isn't being reset correctly rolling back

Are you using any overlays or have any running with different apps?

Are you trying to start the game in a res lower than what you're using on your desktop?

No overlays, mow, bf3 and crisis 3, gpu-z hangs if I try to load it and never gets past the splash screen - have to end task on it

Same res as desktop - games all loaded at the very least prior to updating to latest drivers

Reinstated windows 8 to get it working again, tried an install of the latest on a clean install again to see what happened and got black screen again, so another clean install and back to 13.2 fixed it

Anyone having similar issues with mobile drivers on windows 7?
Thinking about downgrading the os in case this is an AMD + win8 thing

System restore after you driver sweeper can screw system restore from fixing the issue.
Because that's the only time System restore failed me was when i used driver sweeper first.

I had done the restore before the driver sweeper - driver sweeper has never fixed anything for me so it is a last resort rather than the thing I try first

whatever it was in the 13.6's that was causing the black screen, it was very stubborn to get rid of
