OK I have no I idea where I'm supposed to post this lol. Basically every time I play saints row 2 after about 20mins my screen goes black. I can't Ctrl alt out of the game or bring up task manager. Nothing responds. I have to turn my PC off by holding the power button.

It only appears to be this game as I can play bf3 multi player for hours. My card isn't over clocked. And the whole rig is only about 6 months old. GPU is gigabyte HD 7850.

Is something wrong with my PC or is it a common problem with the game?
Thanks

I'm using CCC so I can't up the voltage. Surely I shouldn't have to increase volts if its factory clocked? My spec is i5 ivy bridge 4.5ghz. 8gb ram. Gigabyte hd 7850 2gb. I can play other games just fine and run stress tests for hours. Saints row shouldn't be a problem compared to bf3 and skyrim etc.

I just tried looking at what my gpu temps were whilst playing saints row 2 for 15minutes and the temps were bouncing between 55-60c. Is that bad? The game is being run maxed out on ultra at 1200p.

OK I will try increasing power control slider first. If it still crashing I will download afterburner and increase volts. How much should I increase volts by if I need to?

I forgot to mention that this black screen issue has only started happening recently. I used to play the game for hours at a time a few months ago with no issue. The only thing that has changed is i have a new monitor with a much higher res. so I guess that could explain my card needing some extra volts if it was slightly unstable from the factory. But what if that doesn't work. Could there be a problem with the game files? There isn't even a specific place or situation that it crashes. I'm usually in e middle of a mission after playing for about 20 mins and then BAM black screen.

I have moved the slider up to 20% will that cause stability problems or will it be ok. I tried to download afterburner just incase I need to increase the voltage. the voltage is unlocked but the slider won't move.

I will take a look at trixx then. Oh I thought the power slider did something to the voltage response time or something lol. I have monitored my temps on both CPU and gpu and both of them were well under the max when I black screened. So if its not my temp then will the power slider make a difference? Also is it possible to monitor psu temp?

Ok I have monitored both CPU and gpu and the log stopped 10mins after starting the game which I think is when I got the black screen. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the temp. I have also moved the power control to 20% and it still black screened. I originaly had a pirated version of this game to try it out and it worked perfect but then I bought the steam version in the sale and its the steam version that is having the issue. Do you think there maybe a problem with the steam game?

Ok I have just downloaded trixx and I presume vddc is the voltage. Now when you say bump it up a notch or 2 what do you mean? My voltage( vddc ) is currently set at 1138. If I press the plus button it goes up by 1 (1139). So what do you reckon I should set it to to start with?

Just a little update. I have bumped the voltage upto 1144. So have been playing the game for 15mins so far with no black screen. Fingers crossed. What is the highest temp I should allow my gpu to reach?
The game still runs like **** tho as its a really really bad port. But I can live with the crappy frame rate and draw distance as long as it doesn't keep crashing.

Tbh I probably do have a bit of a dodgy card as I tried to overclock it ages ago and it wouldn't even over clock by like 5mhz not matter how high I set the vcore.
But on a better note. I have uped my vcore upto 1150 and I have managed to play the game for about 1hr 1/2 without any problems. So hopefully that sorted. Strange how this problem has only occurred on the game that pushes my hardware the least lol.
Thank you all for the help.

I had a look and my card isn't even being pushed 100%. It is using the max clock speed but on using between 40 - 50% is this normal. And if so the why would I need more volts if its not being pushed fully?
