Black Smudge on panel

Okay this one's annoying. Right in the centre 1/3 of my monitor I have suddenly overnight gained a black "smudge".

I can get as close as possible to see if it's dead pixels, but the edges are too blurred for it to be so, unless my eyes have also gone downhill suddenly.

It's not on the exterior of the display and is certainly "inside". No matter what colour it's on, it just looks darker and smudged.

Any ideas? Here's a pic, of this post. Postception.

It looks like a thrip ('thunderbug' or 'storm fly') in the monitor. They're common at this time of year. If it is still alive you may be able to lure it out if you are able to turn the monitor off overnight and put a lamp beside it, if you have one. Alternatively if it is dead it will hopefully crisp up eventually and fall down. You could try gently tapping it with a soft cloth against the screen when you're sure it is dead. Some other ideas here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18682088.

No I do have a thunderbug walking around the screen, see my other post. It wanders in and out every few days, I'm hoping it does off screen soon.

This is very much panel related, it looks nothing like the other ******* bug

Looks like a dead one. Similar proportions as the one I posted in the other thread:

They are quite convincing at looking like dead pixels, because they are behind the pixels and in front of the backlight.

Here is the alive Thrip going on an evening jaunt, you can see it's quite different.

A comparison of the two, similar size but one is crisp and bug like, the other is smudgelike.

It looks as if the second 'blurry' one is deeper down in the LCD matrix. And squished. I'm not sure how accessible various parts of the matrix are to such creatures.

Not knowing the design of an LCD panel I'll have to take your word for it. I assumed there was the outer screen, the pixel bit then electronic magic bits, I assume I've missed a few layers and the bug got in there.

A bit gutted, and I guess nothing I can do about it.
