Microsoft has officially confirmed that a long-rumoured black Xbox 360 will be hitting the streets soon.

The model, called the Elite pack, will be the highest spec of the three 360 packages on offer, with a 120GB hard drive and an HDMI output (plus an included cable). The Premium pack has 20GB of storage space and no HDMI, while the cheaper Core system no hard drive and no HDMI. The Elite pack will not include an internal HD DVD drive.
A price of $479 (around £250) seems likely for the Elite, but there’s no confirmation of a launch date and price for Europe. If we had to guess, we’d say the price will be £300 – £20 more than the Premium pack costs now.

Elite 360 won't replace Core or Premium systems

Market it as PS3 competitor and that'll really confuse the public.

Well rumour has it that the Core will be dropped totally and then the Premium will drop in price. So a potential Premium at something like £230 and the Elite at £300 or so would be quite nice :)
 
Sounds like they will keep all 3 SKUs by that article, as it says nothing about it being a special/limited edition, as was speculated on other sites. So the premium will be the middle version.

Elite - Vista Ultimate
Premium- Vista Home Premium
Core - Vista Home

Well there is not mention of a price drop for the Premium pack, and it would need to be one hell of a price drop.



Also is this the one with the newer chip set ?
 
I assume the Premium will go down to like £250? It was at that price a few months back, as for the Core, another potential price drop?
If there are a range of consoles for a wide range of prices (All lower than the PS3) then it could just twist Joe Public's arm.
 
Well i thought that article said the premium was gonna be replaced by this and the core would stay.
 
Well ms haven’t released any photos yet so they will most likely be the whites ones photo shopped just for the article.
 
What a lame April Fool's "joke" that would be, it isn't exactly shocking news and it doesn't bring anything new to the table.
It would be similar to me saying "rain forecast for the 3rd week in April... April Fools!" I have no doubt that Microsoft will eventually bring out a slightly higher spec 360, it just makes sense. It would also make sense to have a limited run in black just to guarantee quick sales, you know what people are like. "It's a different colour! I must own one!!!"
