Blackberry backup woes

The last few times I've upgraded users from older to newer Blackberry handsets at work, when coming to restore the address book from the backup taken of the previous handset, it doesn't allow me to restore it - the Address Book option in the backup is greyed out.

I've tried doing full backups and just taking the address book individually but no joy, this has happened to the last 5 or so upgrades I've done.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Maybe a stupid question but can't you just have wireless sync enabled and then resync the new handset?

We use Lotus Notes 6.5 and user's address books are stored locally, not on server like with Outlook/Exchange. The only place these addresses will be stored is the old device, which I can backup but not restore :(

Lotus Notes 6.5. You guys must hate yourselves, notes and it's EOL ;) There's a KB for this: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB12608 but I'm not so sure about it - it seems like there might be another issue at work...

Looks like wireless sync turned on prevents restoring from a quick google so might be worth trying: go into new handset setup - turn off wireless sync - restore contacts via DM then disconnect - turn on wireless sync. Enjoy.

Usually if something is greyed out its sync'd wirelesly.

The company I work for has just moved from notes to outlook but the address books were still wirelessly synced with notes through the PAB.

Also check the policy is set to the "default" policy, as i know when we try to backup on a none default policy it wont backup everything, only 20% of the phone.
