Hmmm... I think I'm just going to wait until all this blows over to start configuring things on mine, internet seems to be working ok but I can't even get the email config app to start![]()

RIM said:The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated, and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will continue to keep you informed

hehe yeah I can't believe it all went ****-up the DAY I got mine! Its all you noobs getting your new 9900s thats caused the BIS service to crash spectacularly![]()
Just setting up my 9900 now, I'm assuming it won't see Network Date/Time or allow me to configure my Hotmail (only gives options for Enterprise Activation) due to the global issues today?
This is quite amusing. This sounds like (I have zero proof, just using their words) their setup is single site dependent otherwise they would have said "the failover datacentre didn't work". Keep Classy RIM.the failover did not function as previously tested
It's picking up network time now so that must've been an Orange blip or just the device waking up overnight.Network time is provided by the network not BES IIRC. SMS/MMS are operator parts and should always work (the resilience in SMS is huge, it can withstand everything but new years eve at 00:01)
If BIS&BES are at 50% and BBM is dead I honestly wouldn't do any setup until it reaches situation normal, it's likely they have disabled account addition until it returns to 100% service anyway, that's the first service to be dropped usually.
Someone's balls are on the block over at RIM HQ as we speak I'd have thought, and you'd like to think they might revise their DR strategy once this all blows over too so hopefully it won't happen again. It's quite shocking given how the entire BlackBerry phone service relies on BIS/BES that there isn't a proper backup system in place (or at least one that works).
