Blackberry enterprise server 5 email sync

We upgraded to the new BES 5 about 2 months ago. Email syncing with Outlook 2007 is not working correctly and it was doing the same thing before upgrading to BES 5.

Emails do get retrieved on the inbox of the Blackberry and Outlook inbox, but if you delete messages sometimes from Outlook inbox they will not delete on the Blackberry sometimes. The same goes for when people delete messages from their Blackberry, sometimes the messages will not delete from Outlook.

Our users have now got used to deleting the odd email that has been dealt with from either outlook or their bb when it has been deleted from the other

We use Blackberrys 8310s and 8900s

Does anyone else use BES 5 and have outlook >< blackberry sync issues?

I am assuming you have Bi-Direcitonal sync enabled and all of your besadmin user permissions are perfect? It should also not be a member of any Administrator Group. Someitmes you need to re-send service books down to the devices but start with permissions, then look further.

bi-directional is all on. User permission are fine as far as im aware. I have sent service books to devices a few times with sorts emails out and deletes the ones that shouldnt be there but then it goes back to not properly syncing.

Strange thing is, sometimes mails delete in outlook when removed from the BB and sometimes they dont. Same goes for when you delete in Outlook.

Andyt_uk - I'm not sure, we just go to messages on the blackberries and it should look identical to Outlook. It does most of the time but sometimes they dont properly sync when deleting. Send and receive work on both

Do you have Hard deletes turned on for the BES? Otherwise if people do shift-delete it won't track them.

The BES needs to 'see' the deleted emails in the deleted items folder else it won't remove them from the BB.

So with hard deletes as said you need to turn on hard delete support and also make sure people aren't emptying their deleted items too quickly.

As for on device, I guess just make sure that under the email reconciliation settings you have 'delete on' either set to prompt so they can choose or delete from mailbox and handheld.

Thanks all. I am on a new mail server and have set myself up on a bb. Hard deletes are now on and options on the BB shows delete from mailbox and handset.

I think the problem is deeper, my boss moved himself to new mail server and i tried adding him to a BB but it wouldnt run the enterprise activation properly, it just sat there. The problem lies with the traces of things still left on the old mail server. At the moment it works fine with me, i seem to have moved ok. However users with thousands (or tens of thousands) of emails in many archives, full calendars, notes, thousands of tasks etc are going to cause problems.

We are looking into moving people from the old mailserver to new (migration?) but this is way out of my depth unfortunately. Thanks for all your help people, no doubt I will be posting on here again with something else
