Blackberry or Windows Mobile?

Depends what you want it for. There are far more business programs for WM than any other platform.

not really a contest, windows mobile is terrible.
Of course there is a contest, there are a million and one differentiators that might tip it either way. The OP hasn't suggested Android or Symbian either, but until we know what he wants to do with it to rule out one of the major operating systems is little short of juvenile.

My vote would be for Windows Mobile (6.1 professional or newer) - anything before that is indeed terrible. Depends on your level of tech proficency and useage tho... I stripped my WinMo build down to bare essentials and rebuilt it with a suite of applications that I needed and I wouldn't be without it.

Which one would go for guys? Blackberry or Windows Mobile?

it's depend how do you want to use your mobile. Blackberry is strong with push email meanwhile Windows mobile aren't. Windows mobile has a very good compablity with Windows OS meanwhile Blackberry aren't.

iPhone :D Been using WinMo for a few months now and it does not even compare to iPhone in terms of how user friendly it is. WinMo has more options and tinkering than the iPhone but I personally prefer the iPhone. Did have a go with my cousins Blackberry and did not like it at all. Just depends on what you are going to be using it for...

How do you come by that opinion??.. I went from a Samsung Omnia (origionaly WinMo 6.1 but upgraded to various flavors of 6.5) Loved it and hated it at the same time!... It has some nice features, and massive flaws... and it wasn't that compatable with my Windows Vista 64bit Laptop without substantial tweaking!...

I've now gone with a BlackBerry Bold9700 and I'm totally blown away by it!... worked straight out of the box!!... easy to use and customise (check out Crackberry.com) and there are a growing number of Free 'Apps' for it available!.. plus it connected to my Laptop and even allows me to use it as a 3G modem (something my Omnia never did) without a load of faffing!!..

Never tried iPhone (Toy) or Android (interested but not yet!!)..

:)

The thing is though, as he posted this in this section and not the mobiles section I only assume he wants to use whatever device he wants to get as a PDA not phone, in which case the iPhone and Android are pointless. That's why I mentioned the business programs.

As for whether WM works with windows better, my HTC Touch HD works flawlessly with both my x32 laptop and my x64 Desktop in both file transfer and internet connection. Could be HTC's software though.

Depends what you want from it. Personally I think a blackberry defines 'smart phone' because it's still a great phone - easy, quick and intuitive to use, has great battery life - but is a very capable device. It's a smarter than normal phone.

Windows mobile has always felt like a pocket computer, it's never excelled at being a phone. It was an alright PDA style device but even then quick and intuitive wouldn't have been my description of using one.

Horses for courses but I wouldn't touch a current windows mobile device, wm7 will be interesting as it's really Microsoft's last chance to get it right or they can kiss the market goodbye.

Whats wrong with wm 6.5??? if windows mobile phones were advertise a tad more they would beat other phones easy.. I havent had a blackberry or a iphone, but my mate says you can do some things easier and more things with a windows phone

Edit: Plus Windows are fully customisable unlike the iphone or blackberry, ie You can get a windows phone to look like the iphone if you wish and prob a blackberry aswell, cos theres 1000s of bit of software you can get for it. You can even install better software keyboards/numbpads then the default windows mobile one. So you can have it looking how you want it to look and doing what you want it to do, instead of it being the other way around with other phones,.

WINDOW PHONES RULE lol:D

I'm new to BlackBerry's.. but checking out Crackberry shows me that you can do this to a BlackBerry too!!.. its only theming!... and there are some absolutly cracking themes out there!... and BlackBerry (and CrackBerry) AppWorld(s) has 1000's of 'Apps' too! :D

Plus if you want your phone to look like an iPhone... buy an iPhone!

I think its with the iphone that you cant copy and paste, also the OS hasnt been upgraded since its release, I dont think anyway.

Am not sure.. but the blackberry does sound very much like the windows phone, if you can tweak/add software to the OS to make it more user friendly.

I bought a "blue angle" phone from the bay last summer, and Ive upgraded the OS to 6.5, changed the tiny win mobile keyboard to a finger keyboard, put on "slide to unlock" cos the win mobile locking system is rubbish. Also slide to unlock has a cool feature, the screen goes blank while your in a call, so you cant press the screen by accident. I have quite a few more things like that on my phone to make it more user friendly

Oh yeh "thumb cal" is a good bit of software, it replaces the default win mobile calender/appointments, but thats not free its a 30day trial

That's exactly why I have no interest in them. That's not a phone. That's a computer in your pocket. I (and most people given the market penetration they've achieved in the last decade) don't want a phone where you can customize everything down to the last detail. The 'you can change the software keyboard for any of 250 other options' is actually a massive turn off for most people.

Has the OP stated what he wants yet? I can't see..

I'd generally go for a Blackberry tho, our company got a windows mobile (can't remember which) and a Blackberry curve (the better one) and in my opinion Blackberry wins hands down in usability, reliability, battery life and actually writing emails and texts and calling people.

Maybe windows mobile os has gotten better, and maybe a different handset would work better but that's my experience.

After working with mobile devices for the last 6 years or so for about 5 I've had a windows mobile and the last year or so a blackberry.

I wouldn't want to go back.

As bigred says as a phone the WM devices were pretty shocking to use, even simple things like dialling the numbers was naff as you'd get lag when typing them in!

As a business tool the blackberry is a well rounded solution, but I'm talking about using these through a BES. Web browsing is handled so much better than all the WM devices I've had (and I've had a few).

I know the MS management solutions have come a long way but again in the business the ease of management, and the ease of use to the end users, the Blackberry wins.

Plus things like CESG approval make things nicer for us :)
