He punched it in. It was blatantly cheating.

I hope your not another whinging gooner, still holding a grudge after 9 yearsHangTime said:Blackburn cheating? Whatever next!
Chris Sutton, 1997 anyone?
Spud21 said:Yes it was cheating, but then it happens, and he obviously did it well enough to make it so 50,000 plus people didn't notice it, swings and roundabouts, sometimes the luck goes with you and sometimes it goes against you, the way of the world.

Yeah and Blackburn were struggling against the pull of relegation, and couldn't afford to give away premiership football in the name of sportsmanship (and don't forget it wasn't cheating, your player [viera?] played the ball to touch). And maybe if your defender hadn't been half asleep he would have been able to play the ball that was thrown towards him, rather than giving away a corner.HangTime said:Well these sort of things happen in games everynow and then (from those dereft of sportsmanship anyway), it's just that the lost points cost us a place in the Champions League in the end, which makes it more memorable. That and Forest lying down on the last day of the season to let in 5 as they were already down....

Good point, had forgotten about thatHangTime said:Well to be fair you should have had an extra 2pts that year anyway because Boro never showed up to a match, which was later replayed and ended in a draw IIRC (?). Of course Boro got 3pts deducted (net result -2), but Blackburn only got 1pt for a game they should have been awarded all 3.
I realise that, but there is nothing in the rules to say that we have to give them the ball back, what I was inferring is that we weren't cheating as accusedHangTime said:As for Vieira kicking the ball out, of course he did, one of our players had been hacked down and was genuinely hurt (he was subbed).
NokkonWud said:Indeed, Newcastle are amongst the biggest cheats in the league (better now with no Bellamy) so Swings-&-Roundabouts is about perfect.
