Blackout curtains

Hi all

I want to buy some blackout curtains, ie pre-lined with blackout material. I can only find Dunelm Mill that do them. Any other places people are aware of? Other places state lined but not specifically blackout lined. John Lewis have a small range and none are big enough to fit our window frame. The Dunelm ones are all plain single colour varieties.

I don't want blackout blinds as then you have two things screwed to the wall and two things to open and close.

Recommendations appreciated!

i was in the same boat as you, i had to by mine from dunelm due to not being able to find any others, you can how ever buy just the lining, if you know some one thats handy with a sewing machine
 
As above, we buy the curtains we want then fit blackout linings.

You can just buy the material and sew them in or get "ready made" ones that'll fit to your existing curtain hooks. Dunelm Mill normally stock both types.
 
IMO curtains are the biggest rip off out there, squares of material and straight stitching. I'm seriously thinking about buying a sewing machine as one pair will pay back in no time then there's no worry about sizes materials or linings.
 
Agreed.

Mum makes a lot of ours as she's very handy with a sewing machine. A few yards of fabric, some matching cotton, a length of rufflette tape and she's away. It's also a great way to get perfectly matching cushions or bedding.

Sometimes my wife will hunt the bargain bins for odd size curtains that nobody wants and mum alters them.

This pick your cutains and have a flick through the yellow pages loads of people out their who will do this work for a reasonable price.

Personally I wouldn't bother as once you've got used to black out curtains I find sleeping without them a real pain.
 
Not as much of a pain as waking up at 6am from May - October :p.

Cheers all. Will buy some separate material and get some quotes for adjustments off some local material-types.

I've had it both ways a prefered getting used to the sunshine, the blackout blind was just weird even after two years I didn't like waking up with o idea what time of day it was! Have just think blinds now and our room is light from about 4:30am until 10:00pm at this time of year and it doesn't bother me once I've adapted in the summer.

Obviously we are all different!

You mean "getting up in the morning" then. 0600 in May - October is the best part of the day! What I am getting as, why not just adjust and enjoy the morning?

I find the world far more interesting at that time of the morning than anything past 2200 at night.

personally i would sooner be in bed a sleep, im more of a 8 hrs sleep a night sort of person :D
 
Ebay and blackout blinds and heavy/blackout curtains.

Blinds stop most light other than a bit around the edge, curtains mop that up.
About £25 for each on ebay.
